What a cool place! (If you look at my other reviews, you'll know that I don't have any association with this place and have never been here before, so although this sounds like a sales pitch, it was my actual experience.) I was debating between spending $100-200 at a hotel, and decided to go with this hostel. What a fantastic surprise! Staff - I must have met at least 10 staff during my stay, with questions, eating on premises etc. EVERY single one was super friendly, engaging and ready to serve. Cleanliness - the shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, the sheets were very clean, each bed has a privacy curtain and light, along with electrical outlet at your bed, AND a locker with electrical outlets inside. AC was working and pleasant at night. Amenities - they had a chalkboard full of FREE activities, from a hike to a yoga class, to a cooking class. I did the cooking class. The chef came out an had us all make guacamole together. Lots of laughs and these activities were a great way to meet people. Happy Hour from 7-8 was buy one drink, get one free.. as many times as you like. There was a pool table, and karaoke after 8 PM, and a sweet little swimming pool there as well. LOCATION- you cannot beat this location! It is RIGHT ON the marina next to all the giant yachts and the bay. I walked to the nearby beach and you have a view of the entire bay from there. Plus, if you want to party hard (I did not go there), the party street with clubs is a 5 minute walk. PARKING - not their fault, but this is the one speed bump to this place. There is no included parking. No big deal though, because directly connected to the building, on the street side, (Boulevard Paseo de la Marina) there is public parking for $17 pesos per hour, BUT ONLY UNTIL 9 PM. So, after 9 pm, further down the same street about another block down, there is Public Parking for $15 pesos per hour, 24 hours a day! This is a 5 minute walk from the hostel. I was here in January, in the low season.. still lots of people and action going on.. but on the weekends or in the peak season, I don't think that this would be a quiet place and they don't guarantee that the dorms will be quiet.. so although my time in the dorm was quiet, be forewarned and don't blame them if you need a quiet night's sleep and the place is off the rails that night. It caters to a younger crowd but there were many adults 30's to 50's as well. Oh, and you can get breakfast included for a little extra. For the experience, ability to meet other travelers, the incredible location and amenities the price is ridiculously affordable, compared to paying for a full hotel. Depends on what your priorities are. I really had a 10 experience on all fronts and no real complaints, which is refreshing and why I am writing so much detail. If...
Read moreWe had the most incredible stay at Mayan Monkey in Cabo! Everyone in the staff is so helpful, so welcoming & accommodating. When I first arrived Boli was an incredible person to elaborate on all the beautiful scenic things to do around the area. His knowledge of the area, his kindness, & friendliness made for a great homecoming because after a long day of travel, drive from the airport, & after finally getting there, he made us feel right at home! It was a special feeling he brought
The area is a great spot, tons of shopping and bars, but after doing walks around, Mayan Monkeys bar still was our favorite. The food was incredible there as well! Ate there everyday & wasn’t mad about it, was very satisfied and pleased with how delicious the food was & how well the kitchen cooks! Hector was our server most the days & his charm and great attitude made for an incredible experience being by the pool on the terrace all day long. Marlon, Mitzi, Dani, & Rodo throughout our time there were incredibly helpful, if we needed help with our key cards, questions about tours, help with transportation, or even just stopping in to say hello and share some laughs amongst each other. They’re all so kind, very professional & each day I was there I looked forward to seeing them all including Boli! The vibe there was an incredible start and end with our group of 25 people, the property is safe, only people staying at Mayan monkey are allowed in, the pool area has all the aesthetics of feeling like you’re in a tropical mexico vacation. I was very pleased to have constant tunes the whole week , & they would even have a DJ periodically throughout the week! Made the atmosphere so fun, & easy to click with everyone apart of the Mayan Monkey family whether they were working, or there on vacation. Great place to meet people, socialize , dance, play pool, & enjoy delicious cocktails! I recommend this place for everyone! Can be whatever vibe you’re looking for, coming alone, as a couple, or big groups! The atmosphere they curate is a fun, safe, & entertaining place to be with the best staff. Looking forward to our next time back in Cabo & staying here indulging in this lovely experience Mayan...
Read moreThis has to be the worst booking I've ever had and I feel very misguided from the description of this place. It's almost 1am on a Wednesday night and I still can't sleep from all the noise. It's been like this since I checked in, on Monday. A Monday. Usually hostels have quiet hours and this place was described as laid back and relaxed, both in writing and at check in by staff, but the walls are paper thin, the music never stops, and there is no staff to help once the office is closed. I came to Cabo for a mental break, to scuba dive and enjoy warmer weather for a week. I really wanted to come and meet people and like this place but the environment is not fit for anyone who just wants to hang out. This is a nonstop party hostel, I sincerely have not been able to sleep in 3 days and am petrified about tomorrow and Friday and how I will get any sleep before my Saturday flight home. To top it off, the sold me on the daily breakfast that supposedly starts at 7am. Since I'm here diving I need to be at the dive shop by 7:30am. Breakfast really starts until 8am because staff gets here at 7am to set up and open the kitchen and then start cooking. It's very dishonest to sell it as "available since 7," so when I asked for a refund they told me it was not possible because "special pricing" is not refundable which was also not disclosed when I accepted the breakfasts. I essentially have paid for nothing because the kitchen is not ready by the time I'm there to try to eat before I leave. The rooms are decent for a hostel, comparable to a 3 star hotel, and the location for me was good because it's next to the dive shop, but other than that it's nothing hip or exciting, it's very cookie cutter and wannabe cool hostel vibes with mediocre nonstop music. I feel like the "what I ordered & what I got" meme for sure. For their price you can definitely stay at one of the nearby resorts or try to find a deal at a boutique hotel, now that I'm here and I see the area and walkability/transportation there are better options for sure. If you are young, broke and looking to party...
