The dolphin encounter was nice however if they were explain to you That it’s just a dolphin encounter to get a sale that would be nice .. My kids and I were expecting to swim with dolphins . They didn’t explain that the dolphin encounter was not too swim with dolphins. However, it’s just too have the dolphin give you a kiss wave and a flip and splash … also no you can’t take pics of your own and the cheapest package is $390 for the pics the photographer takes . The others Encounters with the dolphins were completely booked so they were just trying to sell me what they had available without an explanation of what a “dolphin encounter is” my kids and I was bummed out . However it was a beautiful experience our dolphin was aqua And despite it not being the trainers fault nor the photographer fault, they both were very, very nice respectful and very knowledgeable on the dolphins
Negative side When we go downstairs to the gift shop, we go to buy some ice cream as you know there is an ice cream parlor inside of the gift shop I had a scoop of coffee ringed up My daughter is picky and didn’t know what she wanted so she wanted to taste a couple flavors before she chose her final one The guy there was very rude and told her they didn’t do that. We saw the sticks that are made for that. So I said you know I see the sticks for tasting i don’t see the big issue he rollllls his eyes at me and then Tell the lady in Spanish to make My Daughter buy some ice cream before he gives her anything That’s when I got upset because I look African-American, but I’m Cuban My first language was Spanish So I answer in Spanish for him now to worry The rudest thing you can do in front of tourist or people in general is start speaking a different language while we all speaking in English is to say something in Spanish it will make the person feel like you are talking about them and not to worry I’ll talk to his boss . I go to ask him for his name. He tells me he’s not telling me his name since his badge is off So I thought to say that’s fine I’ll talk a picture then, he yells at me to not take a pic . I’m not a fan of this gift shop I spoke to a supervisor she agreed with me on how wrong he was and how Ignorant, he was to this situation . He shouldn’t be working with tourist with his attitude, especially not with children. Here is a photo of him beware.
As beautiful as The dolphin encounter was Unfortunately there’s no photos to have as memories of !! For a package to be $390 as the cheapest package I feel like...
Read moreThis is a great excursion for young families or anyone who wants to stay close to the cruise port, but would recommend all groups know exactly what to expect. We booked this through our cruise ship. We were met by our guide right when we stepped onto the Cabo pier, who walked us a short 3-minute distance to the Cabo Dolphin Center. This facility is actually home to Cabo Adventures, a popular local excursion company. We were shown an area to wait and given restrooms to change into. Note there are no changing rooms, so be prepared to change in a stall if you haven't already come with your swimwear. The actual dolphin encounter lasted about 20 minutes and there was a viewing area some distance away for anyone in your traveling group who didn't participate in the actual water/dolphin portion. Other reviews have expressed disappointment that this isn't "swimming with dolphins" but the time allowed to be with the dolphins and interact with them was adequate. You're in the water (typically individually) interacting with them, not really swimming. Know that every minute of your time is geared toward getting the right photo from their photographer, hoping you'll purchase later. Overall, our guide with the dolphins was great, very friendly and make our young kids stay very engaged! This brings me to the biggest issue we: the insanely priced photo packages that every other review referenced. We were prepared to pay $280 for all the photos of our group (keep in mind, our group of 4 adults and 4 kids paid over $1,100 for this 20-minute dolphin encounter excursion itself). Our photographer said that because our group was so large, they "did us a favor and packaged all the photos together for the reduced price of $600." This was ridiculous. We weren't two groups, we were one. We told them we had done our research and was prepared to pay no more than $280 for all of our photos. We tried to negotiate a lower rate, without success. We left the photo area, then returned a few minutes later to ask what their final offer for photos would be. They proceeded to say "if you promise not to write a review and tell others, we'll discount your photos by $200" which brought it do $400...no videos (those were $200 more to add). We paid the $400 and cut our losses. Just be prepared to play the game (and leave if you have to) unless you're a group of 2-3 people...they'll try to package your larger group and charge you...
Read moreJavier & staff are amazingly professional and friendly. The wonderful staff and amazing experience more than make up for eye-watering hidden charges (over a hundred dollars over advertised price) & crazy pricey photo packages ($330 for photos & videos). It would have been 5 stars if they had been upfront about the pricing. We still would have paid, just wouldn't have felt like chumps.
Javier the Dolphin Trainer was fun, patient, kind, and great with Aqua, the Alpha female dolphin who played with us. Man, we were just all smitten with Aqua. What a sweetie. We got to get a kiss from her, hug her, dance a little bit, then go for a rocket loop under water, breaching the surface with her. Amazing experience.
I have swum with wild dolphins in New Zealand and this was a fun, very different experience. I didn't get the feeling that the dolphins were mistreated in any way. We have very positive vibes coming away from it.
I don't know her name, but the videographer was great, also. She took extra care with a concern our daughter had about a wardrobe malfunction and did a great job aiming with her go pro on a stick. She really captured it well.
So, for pricing, the website said $146/person for the dophin-speedboat package. That ballooned to $184/person for some "Travel Experience" thing I didn't unselect. Check out slowly and read the fine print and don't get the travel experience thing which is some kind of insurance. Also, transportation is $10 a person, possibly each way. Bonus: they were late and it was crowded. If you are anywhere near the Marina, just take an Uber (and be sure to decline transportation & fees).
I expected photos to be pricey and they were. $330 for photos and videos for 3 people. We tipped about $20 to Javier & $10 to the videographer. It wasn't their fault the corp is shady, I would have liked to tip more, but was already waaaaay over budget due to hidden fees and obscene photo...
