We felt quite overwhelmed with the touristic bustle of Chefchaouen so were very pleased our old guidebook suggesting this hidden riad and restaurant.
Whilst the interior is nicely decorated, the gem is the terrace up around four flights of stairs (sorry to the waiter who had to climb for our three courses!)
There you will be surrounded by lovely mountainous scenery , be able to look out and over Chefchaouen from the terraced seats and relax within its quiet atmosphere. We had the place to ourselves.
The three course lunch menu was good value which included a vegetarian cream soup , vegetable tagine or vegetable cous cous (we shared both!) and honey yoghurt and nuts. Our guidebook suggested the cinnamon orange dessert but we forgot !
Everything was delicious , particularly the cous cous sauce and honey in the yoghurt.

Read moreI was traveling solo so apparently got one of the smallest rooms in the riad, but it worked out well, because it was easy to heat. Once I cleared all the doo-dads that hotels think you need and put them in the closet I had room to open up my two roller suitcases. I had to mostly crawl into bed because the alcove was quite narrow, but it really wasn’t a problem. It is a gorgeous place and located right in the old city. The very good Casa Hassan restaurant is almost across the street. The staff is lovely and very helpful. The bathroom had a towel heater which was perfect for drying clothes very quickly in a pinch. There was a deep window ledge that I was able to use as a desk. Wifi same as many Moroccan hotels, meaning adequate for Zoom. Don’t know about live-streaming a movie. There was a hairdryer and TV in the room,...

The olives were rancid, which is a shame in a country like Morocco. First course we had the harira soup and goat cheese salad. The soup was vile and the cheese was tasteless. Second course we had the chicken pastela and vegetable couscous. The pastela was extremely sweet and the chicken in it was over cooked; the vegetables were severely under seasoned and had the texture of wet cardboard. The sauce for the couscous was the saddest sauce I’ve ever tasted in any restaurant ever. We didn’t stay...
