Two stars because the service was excellent despite the negative reviews saying otherwise and the owner offered to give me my meal for free (I declined and paid anyway because I felt bad) after I said it was pretty bland and terrible. They have many guys on the street trying to get you to eat there so they managed to convince me to have dinner there but I’m disappointed I did. It has very nice decoration and a lovely view of the main square so I guess that’s all it has going for it. I had the vegetable tagine (tajin) which was served super hot which is positive from a health perspective - I’m glad I don’t eat meat because I think if I ate meat here I would be ill. I also had a non-alcoholic mojito which looked very pretty but was served at room temperature, was gritty and tasted like actual dirt from the ground because the mint leaves and fruits had not been washed. I had to ask for salt and paprika and even this wasn’t enough to make the tiny portion of bland and overcooked vegetables (meant to be a tagine but to call it a tagine is just insulting to Moroccan cuisine) taste of anything. I’m just glad I didn’t get sick afterwards. Avoid this place and go to one of the excellent restaurants which are also...
Read moreI did not actually eat here. I was intending to eat there on my last day there but man haha really turned off by the touter.
Firstly, there are a lot of touting from the whole stretch of the restaurants. That’s fine and though can be quite uncomfortable and racist with their comments, I understand because the competition is stiff.
I was approached by the guy from the restaurant, he was nice and understanding when I said no, maybe later. And he let it go. But when he saw me entered another place for coffee at 3 pm (not meal) he got visibly upset and shouted at us infront of everyone calling us liars. Really unreasonable and unprofessional. Such a turn off.
And this places Morocco in a box for us tourists, most of them are just very aggressive at touting and unreasonable. This should change if Moroc wants to be a world class tourist destination.
We got very uncomfortable for the rest of trip in Chefchaouen, cos every time we walk past this restaurant (which is at a good location) he would just snide a comment in-front of everyone. So annoying and...
Read moreIt is right in the middle of the biggest plaza in Chefchaouen's Medina, so it is highly touristy, but it was a very enjoyable surprise. We had the cheapest three course meal of our journey there, three dishes for 7 euros each. The Tagine was in fact excellent, lamb very tender and well cooked and the aroma and taste of the spices was just right. The turmeric used to its natural extreme, but it worked! The team serving us, were the least pushy of all the restaurants to sit us down, but once we were at the table were not a nuisance. It also has the added bonus of having many cats around you and "share" your meal with them. If you love cats, Morocco is a heaven for you! If you go to Chefchaouen and went a cheap and tasty meal, you can't go wrong...
