The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and the AC worked well. There was also a mini fridge in our room which was nice to keep water cold. This sums up the highlights for me. Nothing was horribly wrong but compared to the few other riads we stayed at in Morocco, this one was okay.
The breakfast wasn't great, unless you like to have a lot of cake. There was mainly bread based items and no fruit. The tables were low and so I was worried about getting food all over my lap before we even started the day.
Payment and departure were a bit chaotic. When we arrived we mentioned we had a desert tour up next, which normally means an early start. When we went to leave at 7:30 am the day of departure, the guy was sleeping and when he work up the card machine wasn't charged. If you know you have people checking out, you should probably make sure your card machine is charged the day before. We had a bit of back and forth, and it ended in me having to do more work afterwards to sort the payment. It wasn't a great end to our stay. Yes, I should have probably double checked the last night when we came back that everything would be okay for an early start but no one was around when we got back and I couldn't be bothered to chase someone down later on. For somewhere I was paying to stay, felt like I had to make a lot of effort. Long story short, if you have an early departure or a departure at any time, maybe check in the day before with the time you want to leave and request they charge their card machine up.
Finally, location is a bit tucked into the corner of the Medina, so to get anywhere is a walk. It was okay but not the...
Read moreThe Riad itself was lovely and in a great location, however the customer service and their willingness to problem solve was extremely poor. We had travelled throughout Morocco for two weeks and have loved and appreciated all of our other accommodations, this was definitely inferior. Firstly, the bathroom had a problem with a leaking shower, which resulted in flooding the tiles leading to the bedroom. This in itself was not a problem for us, as we could solve it with additional towels, however when we asked the manager for additional towels to soak up the water we were refused and told we could only have two. The following day we explained the problem and again (wondering if he hadn’t understood the problem) and he said yes he understood but was not willing to solve the issue and we were ignored and only given 1 bath towel! Additionally our room fronted onto the foyer, and the curtains were sheer so people could look into the room as they were passing ! It was very weird and we were so uncomfortable when we were in our room. The lights in the passage remained on all night shining through the ‘curtain less’ windows so it was impossible to sleep. Finally, the breakfast was ridiculously slow, and extremely poor quality. We’re not fussy eaters and don’t have high standards but this was horrid! There was never anyone in reception to speak to, no matter what time you were there, the staff were just disinterested and really didn’t give a damn. We have not come across this anywhere else in Morocco, everywhere else was amazing. Seriously,...
Read moreAfter a tour of the City of Fes during my first trip to Morocco, I was taken by my tour guide to Darif's Riad for a cooking lesson with the Chef of the Riad. The staff was absolutely lovely to me for the entire duration of my stay with them. The Chef was patient as he showed me how to prepare a traditional Moroccan dish (chicken tagin with salad), and Es-Seddek, the gentleman who supervised and served as a translator during my cooking lesson was extremely kind and pleasant during my stay, which is a testament to the management of this Riad. When traveling away from home, everyone wants to be treated with tender loving care, and the staff at this establishment understands that assignment! Thank you Darif's Riad for making my time in Fes such a...
