Smack Toubkal, situated in the heart of Jemaa El-Fna, offers a diverse menu that caters to a wide range of tastes, from traditional Moroccan dishes to Italian cuisine and quick snacks. While the décor is minimalist and unassuming, the focus here is clearly on the food.
We sampled several dishes during our visit. The Moroccan lamb Tajine was exceptional, with tender meat and rich flavors that exemplified the best of Moroccan cooking. The couscous was fluffy and perfectly seasoned, complemented by crispy French fries. Additionally, we tried the sausage tacos, which were a delightful surprise with their flavorful filling and satisfying texture. However, the Pastila did not quite meet our expectations and was the one letdown in an otherwise fantastic meal.
The staff at Smack Toubkal were friendly and efficient, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Despite its prime location in Jemaa El-Fna, the prices were very affordable, offering great value compared to other restaurants in the area. Read moreGood place to eat for not much money. We went there because it already had a high google rating. When we arrived a lot of seats were taken by mostly tourists but also some locals which is a good sign. Next to it are two other restaurants which were kinda empty at that moment.
We were immediately greeted and seated. Ordering was fast. Coffee was black and good, the mint tea of my mate was sugared but he wasn't asked beforehand.
He had coucous with vegetables and sauce which was only hot inside. My chicken pastilla was served way later when he already ate up.
The chicken pastilla was very delicious though. Hot inside and outside and nicely spiced with cinnamon.
We paid around 200 MAD together.
It sucks though that a lot of beggars and people who want to sell you some cheap fake stuff annoy you while eating. But that's common here. Also the toilet wasn't...
Read moreDo NOT eat at this place no matter how hungry you are or how cheap the food is. My Partner witnessed a young woman being sick in the toilet and an hour after we had left, I threw up every single bit of food I had eaten. The toilets are extra disgusting, the staff make you feel unwanted once you've eaten, I was actually pushed off my table because they didn't have enough places to seat a family of four, the staff never appear to wash their hands. They forget simple things like salt and pepper and extra mayo despite asking for it hefore the meal was ordered.
I had to give one star in order to leave the review but, seriously, do a wide one here and go to Tarjin Darna instead which is only two doors away.
I frequent Marrakech a fair bit, but, this time I stupidly went for a cheap option and had to suffer.
DO NOT EAT...
