We had made the booking on the net and were well rewarded, thanks to the ideal location of about five minutes walk from the Centraal Station. At just under 120 Euros with breakfast for two, the price was perhaps the best in its category in this high tourist season.Even though it was marked three-stars, these were perhaps "dwarf stars" (astronomers would understand). Of course, for those of us coming from the developing world anything with a real star rating is nearly out of the question at over 300 Euros. One near us was charging 450 Euros. Our hotel was bang in the middle of the main avenue leading to the Dam Square. Everything is closeby. The washroom was super large and only if part of it could have been added to the bedroom (even thought that was not architecturally possible).
The breakfast was OK and can be improved with just a little effort - like putting the boiled eggs on the table (rather than being offered these upon request.) The server happened to be from my own city in Pakistan and we got a good chat going. The only thing that can be improved is putting the Euro three (03) charge for the internet into the main bill - but then perhaps it is a fairness issue: why should people not wanting the net pay for those who want it. In any case, this was stated on the booking website. All the three receptionists with whom I interacted were very polite and friendly, especially the lady Tanya. We wangted to extend our stay but no double room was available and hence we had to move out. Unfortunately, I forgot my European converter electricity plug int he room and that could not be retrieved - but then it...
Read moreThis is not a hotel I would recommend if you want more than just a place to lay your head. I travel often and stay in hotels pretty regularly. This hotel was pretty poor in it's overall appeal. Check in process was smooth, the receptionists were very nice and had my room number memorized by the first night. What I did not like was having to give my hotel room key to the reception desks every time I left the location. I also thought it was interesting that the tv remote was given to you at checkout instead of being in the room. I also did not like the fact that you could not eat in your room or have guests.
The Room: Luckily the location had an elevator, even though the elevator could only fit our party of 3 as long as we did not bring our luggage. In addition to being small, the elevator was also graffiti ridden. The hallways and the room were also poorly taken care of. The entire location is in need of a renovation. The room and bathroom were both extremely tiny. Both had several repairs that needed to be made. A frustrating point was that the main room light controlled all of the power outlets so the only way to charge my phone was to leave the overhead light on.
Pros: -5 minute walk from the train station Close to the RLD.
I would not recommend staying in...
Read moreWe had a very pleasant experience during our stay at this hotel. A nice property at an excellent location. It is housed in a typical Dutch-style building. The Centraal Station, Dam Square all are very close to the hotel, within walking distance. Even we went to the Van Gough museum, Vondel Park on foot, enjoying the beauty of the famous canals of Amsterdam. The Tram is very important for commuting here. The tram terminus is very close to the hotel. We purchased Day pass and utilised the tram and train service numerous times. We were given a triple room with a balcony, facing the main street which remains busy till late at night. No disturbance of sound in the street. We spent quality time on the balcony, watching the street life of the area. You can see the Centraal station, the canal (the canal cruise starts from that area which is just diagonally opposite this hotel), and the busy Tram line, all from the balcony. The room is not very big, just enough for three persons. The washroom is pretty good and large. Plenty of eateries near the hotel with a variety of eating options. The breakfast here is fabulous comprising various types of breads, cold cuts, eggs, fruits, and desserts. I strongly...
