Bella Vista Hokitika Motel Accommodation — Hotel in South Island

This is the first Motel, Hotel, B&B, AirBNB or VRBO that has a time after which you cannot check-in and that time is 9 pm. To be fair it does say so on their website but that requirement is simply bizarre as anyone that has done any travel knows that unforeseen circumstances happen that result in customers getting delayed. We reached this motel at 12:30 am after an 8 hour drive from Queenstown with my 2 young kids asleep in the back seat and my wife barely awake. We were extremely tired and looking to get into bed as soon as possible and rest. I had booked my room nearly 2 months in advance and had paid $206 USD for the night. When I reached the motel there was no one at the reception room and as instructed on the door, I rang the bell but no one answered. I waited a couple of minutes and rang the bell again. This time out of the blue a window opened above the reception room and a man started to scream at me and while dropping F bombs. I was shocked at what was happening and before I could orient myself, a woman came stomping into the reception area and started yelling at me and telling me that it is extremely rude of me to show up at 12:30 am. She then proceeded to tell me that I am waking up her entire family. Not sure how I was supposed to know that the owner/manager lives above the reception area. More yelling about it's rude that I just came waltzing in at 12:30 am and that I need to read that "damn" contract that says check in only till 9 pm. I was apologetic that I did not realize that check in was only till 9 pm. More yelling and attitude and how she has to get up at 6 am tomorrow. At this point, I honestly considered leaving because no paid guest deserves this kind of treatment but I had young kids asleep in the car and I was not sure if I would have found another place to sleep and so I kept apologizing. I’m just writing this for who so ever was sitting at the reception on 07/02/2024, @ 08:45 pm. Me and my wife planned a trip to Hokitika and decided to make a booking at Bella Vista motel hokitika. Later on we had to cancel the booking as something urgent came up!! I had a word with that reception girl if there would be any cancellation charges for it. She replied saying, “ I DONT KNOW”. We had to cancel the booking and received a call just after 15 mins from the same girl who seems to be very arrogant and unprofessional saying to my wife, “What game you guys are playing? And questioning to us very rudely. I would request the owner or operational manager of that motel to train their staff so that they can make customers feel...

The staff is very helpful, she asked me where to go when checking out, she told us the road is being blocked for our next next station. So that we can change our itinerary anc book another motel, otherwise our trip will be in a mess.

The motel location is good, only the walking distance can reach the town center and the beach. However the motel is quiet, we can hear the bird sound to wake us up.
