We stayed at the Fire Station Accommodation in Hokitika in July which is the coldest/wettest month. We were absolutely blown away by the Accommodation. We had the 3 Bedroom Apartment. The Apartment was very clean, spacious, beautifully decorated and warm. The photos of the Fire Station Apartments on the booking sites shows exactly what you get when you checkin. The furnishings were tasteful, comfortable and quirky. We had a fireman's pole encased in a wall partition in the main living area and the shelves had fireman's hats from days gone by. I especially appreciated the respectful nod to the history of the Fire Station which dates back to the 1800’s. There are framed photos of fireman from the 1800’s and each apartment is named after past Fire Chiefs. The apartment is fully furnished and the owners have not missed a beat with supplying everything you need for a comfortable stay. I must highlight the owners go over and above to accomodate guests, they are exceptional. The location of the Fire Station is located within the main hub of the town also and you never walk more than approx 5 - 6 minutes to pubs, restaurants, the beach, the main supermarket or specialty shops. There is a clean modern laundry room with washing machines/dryer for guests that are free to use and washing liquid is also supplied free of charge to guests. The beds in the Apartment are comfortable and clean. We are from Australia and have stayed in a variety of places both in Australia and overseas and I rate the Fire Station Accommodation over and above the best we have stayed in. We will return...

This couple from Dallas, TX chose a road trip through New Zealand to celebrate our joint 50th birthday year and have loved every minute of it. We will likely not have a return visit but if we do we will stay here.||We were almost giddy that our one day in Hokitika was mostly rained out because the Chief Shain apartment was the ultimate in coziness and relaxation to sit out the storm.||When the showers broke we took advantage of the location two blocks from the beach and had a delightful walk. Back "home" we nestled in for the night.||A beautiful old building, thoughtfully restored into guest accommodations. Thoughtful is the word here. Thought is given to the history of the building and the brave souls who manned the station for generations. Thought is given to comfortable and attractive public and guest spaces. Thought is given to every possible guest need for any possible occasion.||If you come to Hokitika there is no need to look at any other option. Also, read the guest log; it's...
Read moreAbsolutely loved our stay at the Hokitika Fire Station boutique accommodation! From start to finish, everything was spot on. The pre-arrival communication was excellent – we had all the check-in details well ahead of time, which made arriving super easy and stress-free.
The location couldn’t be better – just a short stroll to the main street with all the lovely cafes, shops and restaurants. It’s such a convenient base for exploring Hokitika. Plus, the parking was great – plenty of space and right outside, which was a bonus.
The rooms were amazing – spacious, stylish, and full of character with lovely touches that made it feel really special. The shower was brilliant too – strong pressure and plenty of hot water, which is always appreciated after a day out exploring.
Honestly couldn’t fault a thing. Highly recommend if you’re heading to the West Coast. We’ll...
