I came in because of the reviews and want to support small local restaurant. When my order of vegetarian green curry came out, I was surprised about the liquidity of the curry sauce and stiffness of the vegetables served. I brought to the attention of the server and he summoned the manager, Rujira. She asked me what’s wrong with the dish, I shared with her my feedback. She wanted to see a picture of the creaminess of green curry that I had before from elsewhere. (What the heck if you are the professional?) She said that she can re-cook the dish to soften the vegetables and make the curry sauce creamier/thicker. I wanted to change to another dish or cancel it due to any possible backlash. She refused to change to another dish just for the reason that I don’t like it (it’s undercooked) or to cancel it as I know that they will not make it to par. When I had no choice, but to have them re-cook it, it came out to be half as much portion as before. (The second picture how the vegetables were still too hard that I had to set aside) She served the dish again and asked me if it’s ok. I said that I don’t know as I haven’t tried it yet. She literally rolled her eyes and walked away. I asked to bring I to go so I can cook some more at the place that I’m staying. If they want to live up to their reviews, they need to upgrade their craft. As an avid traveler and foodie, I consult heavily on reviews, I feel the need to share my experience with this restaurant tonight. As a customer, it was a huge disappointment. Furthermore, I would be personally ashamed of the manager’s/owner’s responses in handling customers feedback, either non-verbal or verbal. It is doubtful that the quality and customer service will improve to international-worthy standards. Best of luck to the...
Read moreThis place was great! I was staying overnight in Hokitika and a few of the normally recommended places were closed due to it being a Tuesday. I was a little unsure of this place due to a couple of their reviews, but given they seemed like a newer business in town I thought I'd give them a shot and was not disappointed.
I got takeout, and ordered the chili jam fried rice with pork belly. There was a good amount of pork belly and it was cooked really nicely, slightly crispy on the outside. The rice and veggies were tasty with the chili jam sauce and it was the perfect amount of spice, and nothing tasted too greasy.
The place feels nice and clean and relaxed inside, and the staff were really friendly - although I did not eat in so can't comment on that part of the experience, although their were quite a few tables and the food and presentation looked nice.
And even though there were a few tables my food came in good time and was an expected time to wait.
Ended up having a great one night stay in Hokitika and this place was one of the many unexpected gems that made it...
Read moreNot very good at all. Ordered a pad thai and received something else entirely. PLEASE STOP USING CHILLI JAM! chilli jam is not an authetic thai ingredient , it's lazy and tastes sugary and processed , they used the wrong noodles with barely any peanuts. Sadly will not be returning .
EDIT to respond : i ordered a pad thai , it is possible i was given something else instead but it had crushed peanuts on it so i'm sure i was given the pad thai, my concern with the chilli jam is that it is all throughout your menu . It literally says chilli jam in your menu so when you say you don't use it , you're lying. Lastly the noodles should be a flat rice noodle , pretty sure what i got was a...
