I’m never one to complain on here about anything but we received shocking service. The girl behind the bar seemed so uninterested in her job and seemed like she didn’t want to service us. No smile or hello. They didn’t pay any attention to what we ordered as it wasn’t correct and we also asked for a menu to look at and the waitress told us we had to go and get our own making it seem like she couldn’t be bothered bringing us one. They weren’t too busy where they would have been under pressure so the service should have been good. I’ve seen other reviews of people having the same experience as mine which is really disappointing. This place has potential to be really good if the staff actually wanted to be there and wanted to give great customer service. I am understanding and do get that this is a stressful time for everyone but it doesn’t take much to give a lasting impression on someone. We always make sure to return to restaurants where we have received great customer service and I’m sure others are exactly like me. Work on your customer service and I think you would have...
Read moreWe dined in. It was about 3:00pm on a Friday so we had the snacks menu, not the dinner menu which was available from 5:00 pm or so. There were 4 in our group and we all had different meals. One had soup and a toastie which was fine overall. The rest of us had different meals, a fisherman’s plate, chicken nuggets & chips (fries) and a bar basket. These were all basically large portions of fries (chips) with various items of protein or veggie samosa or mini spring roll and different kinds of fish. These were all fish included deep fried crab stick. All the food in the three meals was deep fried, excluding salad with the nuggets and chips. The tartare sauce with the fisherman’s dish was nice and tasty. Overall the three meals were not enjoyed and all of us felt this meal was the poorest we’ve eaten out in NZ in the past 5 days ranging from Raglan, through Hamilton, Auckland, Christchurch and Hokitika. We are fed, but disappointed and would not recommend. Photos of what two of us didn’t...
Read moreHokitika - cool little town; has apparently won awards for being Aotearoa’s most welcoming too. I couldn’t agree more. The Favourite Husband and I were the annoying early birds looking for hot coffee on a freezing morning. We decided to give Stumpers a go. I’m so glad we did. The ladies behind the counter were super cheerful and friendly. The coffee was good. Let me fast forward to the food. The eggs Benedict with bacon was perfect. Crispy bacon, perfect poached eggs and a delicious hollandaise. The Favourite Husband had his usual big breakkie and was not only silenced by it (thank the lord) but also beaten by it. Unless he’s coming down with something it must have been enormous to have defeated him clearing his plate! Great value for money too. Hokitika has been on my wish list for more years than I care to remember. I am finally here, in this beautiful little piece of paradise and this morning’s start to the experience at Stumpers got it off with a cheer and a wave....
