We ordered a beef dish and was served a lamb dish. When we raised this with the server, she apologised and offered to make a new dish, we didn’t have time to wait as we needed to be somewhere else. When we went to pay for the other dishes we received we were advised that we still need to pay for the incorrectly served dish. We questioned this and the chef became aggressive and basically said we were lying and that he was the chef and he knows it wasn’t lamb. I mentioned that the person ordering takeaway before me ordered the same dish but lamb and that there is a possibility that they could have mixed up our dishes. At this point the chefs face changed and I got the impression he thought this could be the case. The server then said no this isn’t the case and that we were served beef and that we were wrong. Our complaint isn’t about them making an error as we appreciate that these things happen, it’s about the way they managed the situation and that there was no reasoning with them. They made us pay for a dish and had no care for how their customers felt when they left...
Read moreWe had a fantastic dining experience at EastEat Chinese Restaurant in Hokitika. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken, veggie fried rice, fried squids, and fried pork & prawn dumplings, and everything was absolutely amazing! The flavors were spot on, and each dish was cooked to perfection.
Surprisingly, they charge $3 for chili oil, but I would highly recommend getting it—it adds a fantastic kick and enhances the flavors even more. We also ordered small portions of rice and noodles to accompany the dishes, and they complemented the meal perfectly.
The food quality and taste exceeded our expectations, and we left extremely satisfied. Highly recommend this place if you're in Hokitika and craving delicious...

Braised beef brisket and noodles was good, meat tender. We were initially apprehensive about the sliced beef in hot chilli oil (on menu it has 3 chillis) but it was not that bad and texture was interesting with the bean sprouts and Szechuan peppercorns...there was a lot more liquid in the bowl than we were expecting. Everyone enjoyed the pork and chive dumplings. 1 large bowl of rice fed 4 hungry people. Portions are generous, came to less than $20/head and people were full....
