Good first experience but a surprise! I had dinner at Priya during my first ever trip to Hokitika. I had paneer kadhai served with complimentary rice. The preparation was good and the wait time was reasonable. For dessert, I asked for mango kulfi. I was surprised when the dish came. It was a piece of mango kulfi served in a bowl of mango juice (आमरस) and seasoned with pistachio flakes. I have eaten mango kulfi at a lot of places, but never kulfi served in thick mango juice!!

Great menu, choice varied and beyond the obvious. The sevice was great even though they were understaffed. Asher was front of desk and he was a great host. We started early but not long after the place started to fill up. Food was excellent. We really enjoyed the spicey variance and the imaginative menu. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys Indian cuisine.

We came in just before closing on a public holiday and had one of the best Indian meals in New Zealand. We got the butter chicken and paneer kadhai and both were excellent especially the kadhai! The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of the dishes, but here’s a picture of our empty plates. So good we got every little bit.

Worst experience at this place. Food took nearly 50mins and nothing came out together, our curries came out first, there was confusion with our order and one other table so everything was wrong and not together. We commented to the waitress how disappointed we were about the service and she gave us attitude. I later rang and spoke to the manager/owner who wouldn't refund but he said he would give us other food (we didn't want more food as the original order was horrible and the meat was so chewy and undercooked that we literally had a mouthful and left. I let the owner know he would be getting a low review and he was OK with it. Very underwhelmed and will not be back and will not recommend to other people. Good luck with your business,...

3 consumers 1 review Consumer 1 - Extremely flavorless butter chicken, quite disappointed. Lots of water pooling up at the bottom of my bowl, have not had this issue before.

Consumer 2 - Ordered the chicken Tikka misala was seriously average verry bland and have never had a garlic nann bread taste like a budget white bread with the smallest hint of garlic was over priced and massively disappointing I love curry but can safley say I will never visit this establishment again.

Consumer 3 - waiste of money threw $30 in the bin should of cooked...

We wished to take our children aged 11 years and 9 years for a meal. We were happy with the holiday surcharge. Sat down. Read the menu. The kids picked what they wanted. The wait person arrived. We started ordering. Then we were rudely told under 9 were children and our children had to order adult . We asked why and couldn't be told why our kids were all of a sudden adult. So we promptly left. We had purposely come to hokitika just for an Indian meal. Won't be recommending this place to anyone. We have enjoyed meals here for 8 years....
