I was there in early October 2013 and outside was around 5'C and stayed there for three nights.||In my room everything was perfect, small radiator was even to much.||On the other hand my friends were freezing so they change the room to the first floor with view and then they enjoy it. Same was with hot water. I don't know why and which system they are using but in PERU overall it seems they have problem with hot water in lot of places. Breakfast is simple, and try to come earlier because they do not fill the plates to much.(Can be out of bread or salami) ||Staff was very nice and helpful(simple English knowledge) trying to solve any problem as fast as possible. We left for Machu Picchu and left the suitcases in the hotel promised that we will come back in two days but we missed the train and came back third day. They didn't charge us at all and just smiling all the time. If you like to bargain (as we did) you can get better price for the room without any problem. Overall it is nice and clean place with good location and very reasonable price to stay for few days. Staff was super and I would come back...
Read moreI would have to agree with some other reviewers... "Is this the worst hotel in Peru" ?||||Where does one start ? "24 hour hot water" - we were lucky to get any water out of a tap let alone anything hot, tepid warm was the closest - we've had better in a camp site.||||"Se we have WiFi Senoire" - yes it was good, pity the internet is not plugged into the WiFi ?||||Pack your ear plugs too as the staff set up breakfast at 4am for the early tours and it's in the foyer and the surrounding rooms on all floors bare all the noise [GROAN]. It's on a very busy corner too with lots of car horns just like in Rome [GROAN].||||To top off our 'visit' we got quoted one rate when we arrived and then they changed their mind and increased the price on check-out and then DEMANDED we pay in US dollars !!||||I rarely write about bad experiences, but this business needs to shape up and learn about the hospitality industry, regardless of what nationality or language the guest comes from. In the meantime they don't deserve your patronage and I am sorry I had to...
Read moreHostal Monarca was built within the old Cusco block. So, if you want to walk to Plaza de Armas through the stoned streets and "feel" the Cusco experience this is a decent place to stay as prices are very reasonable. Service was very efficient and the included breakfast was great and a must during the busy Cusco schedule. I got running hot water and an awesome scenic view of Cusco on the second floor. The english speaking staff will keep you informed of all little details to know in Cusco's diverse agenda. Just ask. The pintoresque neighborhood of San Blas is situated as well just above of the hotel, including the San Blas Mercado where I purchased all the fruits that I highly recommend to eat. Hostal Monarca is an old place with lots of character to bring out the noltalgia and feeling of Cusco. If you want a more modern and pricey hotel go someplace else; I'll come back to Monarca to feel that walk to Plaza de Armas and inca...
