This is a good hostal. Room and common areas are clean. Staff is friendly. Good price. I just had a little bit of a frustrating time with the daytime reception. The nighttime reception is great 👌. He doesn't speak much English, but he knows what he's doing and gets it done effectively. I usually just waited for him to show up to buy my water or take care of any bills/business.
1st night. Check in about 11p.m. For one night, no issues, no hassle. Very easy. Next morning, I check out and go to Machu Picchu and do my thing for a few days and come back.
Second time checking in at 6 p.m. 3 days (15-18) on hostel world. The lady can't find my reservation and can't log in to hostel world to see it. I show my bookings number and passport. I explain with Google translate that I'm in the 8-bed dormitory. I get placed in the 6 bed dorm. I explained again and showed my reservation for the 8-bed but am told " not problem it's okay." And that I could pay when we figure it out. So I wait till the nighttime receptionist guy comes in. He finds my reservation, I was able to pay and all good 👍 and no worries about being placed in the 6 bed dorm. Done within 3 minutes.
The morning of the 17th comes around, and I'm asked, "Are you going to check out? "... I replied, " No, I'm booked until the 18th". I then go down later to extend my stay for one more night (checkout on the 19th) and pay right away with a guy on working holiday, but he told me he understood and I pay right away.
The morning of the 18th I go to extend my stay for 1 more night 😅 (checkout on the 20th, I know I was unsure about my days in cusco) but anyways the same lady couldn't do it or get me booked and told me to come back later, so I decided "ahhh screw it, I'll just leave on the 19th".
The morning of the 19th, I got to checkout, and they say "oh you stayed an extra night you have to pay for". I explained that I had extended my stay and had already paid 😕. But the reception guy I talked to was off on a hike that day... and obviously did not put my reservation in. Thankfully, I didn't have to leave right away and had a full day in Cusco because if I had to leave that very moment, I'm sure they would have made me pay. And as we all know, as soon as you leave a hostels city/country. If they owe you money, you might as well kiss it goodbye because chances are you ain't getting it back.
So I came back later in the day, and they said that yes, I was right and that I had paid but they guy just never put my reservation in or made and note of it. They didn't make it a big issue, but like I said, I feel it would have been different if I had to leave that very moment.
Was a little surprised at how unorganized the daytime reception could be. At least in my experience. But I usually always do things over hostel world, so there is a trace of my bookings.
Other than that, the stay was good. The shower room can be a little cold if it's chilly as it is not a heated enclosed area (open air for...
Read moreFound this hostel online when searching for an affordable one that was close to San Blas, San Pedro Market, and San Francisco Plaza. Needless to say this hostel did not disappoint! Staff are extremely friendly, always willing to help you out with any issues you may have, a private room can be had for as low as 40 soles a night and dorms range from anywhere to 23 to 30 soles. The reception workers were extremely flexible when I needed to change booking dates for a variety of reasons and did everything in their power to make me feel comfortable and secure a bed when needed. Laundry service is fast and efficient, the Wi-Fi did have some problems but for the most part fine if you are in the main area of the hostel and they are currently working on fixing that now. If you choose to do a trek or tour away from Cusco you can store your stuff here for FREE! Finally I needed to receive a package from the States and when I asked the owner Marcia if I could receive it here she said yes, no problem any time, even if I am not currently staying at the hostel. She took my WhatsApp number and also refused any sort of payment or compensation for doing this for me. If you are looking for a friendly, affordable, and quiet laidback hostel in Cusco then this is the...
Read moreStaff were nice and the rooms are OK and cheap. However, this place could be better. Firstly, there was a lot of mix up with rooms: my first night I booked a private room and got a 4 bed room to myself, which is obviously fine but weird; my second night I booked a dorm and I got moved to a different dorm room when I had already unpacked because ither rooms had been improperly booked. It wasn't too much of a problem but it makes the staff seemed disorganised. The men's bathrooms with showers are not very nice quality and there should be more. The WiFi is terrible; the hostel has 3 networks but they barely reach the rooms. Finally, the breakfast is a joke: 2 bread rolls and hot water to make tea is simply not a breakfast. It would be better to just not provide breakfast and save the hostel some money and staff time. Again, the staff are welcoming but I would only recommend this hostel to stay for 1 night before a trek. Would also appreciate it if guests/staff were encouraged not to smoke directly outside...
