Suyay B&B — Hotel in Distrito de Cusco

I am Peruvian Journalist that resides in NY. I am used to do solo traveling and I always stay in hostels. My parents who are 2 very active senior citizens wanted to travel to Cuzco for the first time and were afraid for their age to suffer from the altitude sickness and to get scammed from previous bad experiences. We payed everything ahead of time from NY in full because we wanted to make things easier and avoid carrying too much cash. The owner of the hotel treated my parents like family. He was very attentive and even checked with me when they were late and they didn’t answer their phone and were not back in the hotel. He treated them like they were his own parents . Making me feel like they were in good hands . He curated his tour to Machupicchu and at all times they felt very safe they loved their breakfast and the location . They were not cold . Ifti & I are from UK and are on our 6-weeks tour of South America. After visiting various cities in Peru we came to Cusco and booked ourselves into Suyay B&B. This little gem is run by Alfred and his family. The whole family is very helpful and courteous. Our bedroom was good, spacious and serviced daily. Hot shower was available at all times. Good breakfast was served by the smiling staff every morning. A good little terrace with good seating is upstairs to have some relaxing time as well as to have a birds eye view of the historical Cusco city. The bad experience is maybe because we booked the cheapest room. But it was really bad staying here for 5 nights. For 1 night it may be ok, but for a long stay don't come here. Day and night it's really really cold, there is no heating. The big blankets they probably rarely was, so we started coughing because of them. Staff speaks only spanish (but they are really nice). Compared to other similar accomodations, you can feel that they don't care about those little detalis, that can make such a small place lovely.
