I went for the pizza based on other reviews but it was Monday at 2pm and they hadn't fired up the pizza oven yet (they're closed Sundays).
I ordered the ceviche and the pollo de curry.
The ceviche was simply amazing. It had just been announced that Peruvian Ceviche has been awarded a "non tangible world heritage" award and so I had to try some. It is listed as an appetizer and I asked the owner of it actually a small plate because every South American meal I've had has been huge and he confirmed, yes, it's pequeno. He lied, it's a full meal for one. But soooo good. And I'm not even into fish. It's river trout as is common here and therefore isn't "sea" tasting, it was rich and citrusy and delightful.
The chicken curry was fine. The chicken itself was tender and juicy, the sauce and rice were pretty average. But it's not their specialty. I would stick with the Peruvian dishes or the pizza which I will...
Read moreWe arrived in Cusco late at night after taking the train back from Machu Picchu. We walked past this cute little place at 11 pm. They were about to close, but welcomed us in and offered us incredible hospitality. The food was so good! We ordered the breaded chicken and crispy sweet potatoes (think it was called supremo pollo), the 4 seasons pizza and especial pizza. They brought us free garlic bread and little shots of pisco sour. This is a two story place, which meant many trips upstairs to get ingredients. Place was warm thanks to the wood-fired pizza oven in the corner. It was clear to us how much this man loved his job and it shone through in his warm demeanor and delicious food. Seems like a family run business, which I always love to support. I would absolutely recommend...
Read moreDon’t be fooled by the facade. Their foods are the best in Cusco. Sorry to say this but I had a hard time finding something good in this city until I walked in this place serendipitously; well, I checked the reviews. Although I am not a vegetarian, I must say the choice is limited in Cusco unless you are a meat lover. As Indian restaurants saved me from London, this place rescued me.
The service was slower than other local restaurants. But it was worth waiting each time. Cerveza was always icy cold. The garlic bread was something even for my dull palate by the altitude sickness. The food in this place was the better remedy for the altitude than Coca tea. Thank you, Sumaq for being my chicken...
