I already had a bad feeling about the owner the way he spoke on the phone and reading the reviews. I can confirm he’s very pushy and rude. We agreed on the phone I book for 5 nights but can try the first night before I confirm the other days as I might be staying here for 2 weeks because I need to wait for some post from home. Upon arrival he asked me to pay for the 5 nights because he has to pay his guide which is not my problem! I reminded him why we agreed on and explained to him I need to do Western Union anyway as I have problems with my card (which comes in the post), and finally we agreed after 15 minutes I can pay at the end of my check-out or once I know how long I stay. He walked me to the room and asked me again “so are you paying today or tomorrow??” I just couldn’t believe this. After sitting 5 minutes in the room I decided to leave. If he was like this already couldn’t imagine to cope with him for another day let alone 2 weeks being pushed for money and tours too. Came to another place and straight away felt so much more welcomed. The room was ok, the kitchen area seemed way smaller than on the pictures. Just all didn’t feel right there. Also there was a baby screaming and could hear it in the room...
Read moreMariandes hostel was a home away from home for me during my stay in Huaraz. I booked for 3 nights at the dorm, and then extended another 5 nights after. The dorm beds were comfy and I liked that it had privacy curtains. I moved to a private room after because I came down with a cold and did not want to bother my roommates with my coughing - the private room was perfect, it had its own bathroom and everything that I could need! Alan, the hostel owner, is the best! He is the most hard-working person, and he’s always making sure I was alright and asking how he can improve on making my stay at the hostel better. Alan provided me with great recommendations on things to do in the area, and he took care of all the trekking activities that I wanted to do. He is so kind, he even lent me his sunglasses so that I wouldn’t have to buy one for myself when I needed it for a trek. Overall, Mariandes Hostel is a great place to stay for the price paid. It is close enough to the town center making it an enjoyable walk whenever I had to go out and get food. The views from the rooftop were also amazing - I’m going to miss eating breakfast and drinking my tea with views of snow capped mountains in...
Read moreStaying at Mariandes Hostel is amazing simply for one reason. Allan!
He's the owner of the hostel and knows everything about anything around Huaraz. He booked us on a Laguna 513 tour when we first arrived, then we wanted to do the Laguna 69 circuit which Allan booked us on 2 seperate buses so we had both a ride in and out of the park due to camping overnight. Allan also gave us advice on the Huayhuash and let us store our bags here for 12 days.
Any questions we had about mountains / hikes Allan had the answers to! It made me question why I ever Googled information about any hikes prior to arriving here.
Initially me and my partner came to stay at Mariandes Hostel for 2 days, and 22 days later (less Huayhuash) we left. Highly recommend staying here, its clean, 5 mins from the centre of town, amazing views from the rooftop, hot showers and laundry service...
