If you’re looking for a hotel in Iquitos, Peru this is the one. I am a 54-year-old woman from the USA. I had never traveled outside of the country by myself, and I was very nervous. From the very beginning, (a month before my trip) the staff made me feel at ease about traveling by myself. We messaged back-and-forth many many times they made sure there was someone at the airport to pick me up at 5:30 AM. My luggage was lost and they helped me get it back before I had to go in the jungle for two weeks. From start to finish these people made my trip so much better. The kindness and professionalism is unmatched. Especially Caroline. She was instrumental and making me feel safe during this journey. She even helped me arrange someone to take me to the market and stay with me to shop because I wanted to feel safe. It doesn’t matter if you’re coming with a group or if you’re coming alone. If you choose this place, you will be happy. As far as the rooms go, they are nice. The air conditioner works great and the water is hot. After being in the jungle for two weeks, taking showers in cold water I really appreciated that. But the customer service is what sets this place apart. Also, I would like to mention the restaurant I ate every meal there, except when I was in the jungle. The food is delicious and very affordable. The service is unbelievable. I will...
Read moreThe staff were very friendly, and it is in a good location. However, they confirmed that they would send a driver to pick me up from the airport and no driver showed up. I got a tuktuk, but not a great start. They did let me have early check-in when I arrived - perhaps being kind after the airport. But the room they gave me smelled awful - I suspected something at that stage as it smelled really chemically. And with no windows or natural light it felt really uncomfortable to be in there. My skin started to really itch after my nap, and then sure enough, when I woke in the night the room was crawling with ants everywhere. I then asked to move rooms. They moved me to another windowless room on the ground floor right by the bar. I asked if it would be noisy with the music from the bar and he insisted it wouldn't be. Sure enough at 6am loud music starts blasting from the bar and loud builders start banging and yelling outside the door. It was the least restful place to land before going on a retreat. By the evening I discovered that loud music goes on until 3am. My room had no towel or soap. The breakfast was sub standard. There is no hot water whatsoever and the wifi was very poor. I really sensed the staff were trying hard, and no doubt times have not been easy since the pandemic - but I don't think I would ever...
Read moreThe only reason I can figure that this hotel gets any good reviews is that there is another hotel in town that used to be called the El Dorado Plaza. The pictures are very misleading - the window in our room had an opaque film on it so you couldn't see out at all, there was mold everywhere, there were ants all over the beds, between the sheets, etc. and there was no hot water. When I called the front desk they sent someone up who put their hands under the faucet and proceeded to tell me that the child water was actually hot for them. It was so cold, my 9 year old wouldn't even get I to sit in it to cool down when it was 90 out. The air conditioner poured all over a nightstand all night long, not just dripping, pouring. The bathroom was set up in such a way that you couldn't open the door ask the way because it crashed into the toilet. We stayed in a thatched roof hut for 3 days after this hotel with no electricity and it was still nicer than this dump. They also charged us more than the hotels.com booking was for. I would not recommend this place unless you are desperate - the Doubletree is just down the road and for a few dollars more, you could stay in a 5 star hotel with actual hot water and staff that didn't lie...
