Boat Museum — Attraction in Iquitos

Lovely small museum of the history of Iquitos and the Amazon, with a special focus on the rubber trade. I leaned lots of fascinating things that gave me more appreciation for the town and region, and the simple exhibits really helped bring to life a very different era in Iquitos, when there was so much wealth, some families would ship their laundry to London to be washed.

For your entrance fee (10 Sol?) they include a really nice 30 min boat tour on the river in a small boat. We took this just at sunset, and it was a great way to unwind from our day, and get some more perspective on the relationship the river plays in the modem...

Fuimos el miércoles 23-4-25 por la mañana. Por las referencias que teníamos se hacía una visita obligada y así fue. Este barco llamado Ayapua fue construido en Alemania en 1906 por encargo del empresario cauchero E. Moris para navegar por los ríos de la amazonía y recolectar las bolas de caucho para llevarlos a Iquitos y de allí exportarlos a Europa. Hoy es un museo flotante, el costo de entrada 10 soles. Como estamos en temporada baja la asistencia es reducida, de allí que el barco fue todo para nosotros 2 y lo visitamos libremente sin límite de tiempo. El museo tiene varios ambientes con un sin fin de artículos, fotos, utensilios, etc. todos de la época y recreaciones. Está muy bien conservado tanto así que el señor encargado nos comentó que el barco está en condiciones de navegar si se le reemplaza el motor antiguo, increíble !! Los ambientes tienen aire acondicionado y el recorrido se hace con mucha comodidad. Hay que ser muy respetuosos porque el recorrido es libre sin ningún guía. Se deposita una gran confianza en nosotros y no debemos traicionarlo. Pasear por el barco e imaginarse esos días cuando navegaba hace que la imaginación se desborde con todas esas aventuras pasadas. Es de los mejores lugares para visitar en Iquitos y su visita se hace...

I was not expecting the boat museum to be much, but actually I walked away with SO much knowledge about the history of Iquitos, and they have a good amount of interesting treasured artifacts. I absolutely recommend a trip to the boat museum! Only 10 soles for an adult. 1000% worth it. But make sure you take the time in the little air conditioned rooms to actually read about...
