I was very disappointed with Remo Caspi. I had booked months in advance and had enquired about the room and lodge I'll be staying which the website says yanayacu river lodge and the representative I was talking to - Nelson - had told me its 100 km away from iquitos. He also sent me pictures via whatsapp. However on the first day of the tour, I was dropped off at a lodge that was completely different and not as far as was purported. When I texted Nelson to ask about it, he refused to address my question and did not want to answer my call. When my guide called him to do something about it, he told my guide that the original lodge had no vacancy anymore. I dont know how is this my problem but as a tour agency, he had completely failed to give me a better alternative nor did he inform me in advance. After more pressure from my guide, he said he will send us to another lodge deeper in the jungle where theres no signal and that I will be the only one. How did he think this was a better option for me? Im a solo female travel and how could I feel safe in this alternative option? I ended staying in the same place and although the lodge owner was nice, it was not clean. I was bitten all over by bed bugs and had suffered from those bites. There were also a lot in the 4D3N activity that was not followed. For example, i never got to see the giant lotus nor canoed in yagua cocha lake. And because of the location he put me, there was also less animals that could be spotted in the excursions. Not once did Nelson apologize or acknowledge how he messed up. I will never recommend anyone to this dishonest and unprofessional company that think they can scam solo travelers.
Response to the owners reply: I have attached more screenshots of our conversation where you showed pictures of the room and lodge before I booked with you. And also attached are the actual lodge and room I am placed at and also GPS showing that the location was different from your own screenshot. No one is expecting luxury from your company as your company is obviously far from being capable of providing anything close to luxury. All I expected was what you delivered on what you said you would and what your website says it would but you didn't. The pictures and whatsapp speak for themselves no matter how much you want to deny it. You are a completely dishonest company that is not capable of admitting fault nor apologising. This is bad ethics and I will never recommend your...
Read moreI have just returned from a magical trip to the Amazon, along the Yanayacu River with Remo Caspi. The company has a very warm and family feel. I was very impressed with the kindness and guidance of Nelson and Elmer. They made me feel very safe and supported throughout the trips duration, and provided a pick up/drop off service, aswell as providing me with local knowledge of the area. As a solo traveller, it was greatly appreciated to have a company that I could trust and rely on.
Secondly, I cannot speak highly enough of my guide, Harley. Harley was extremely personable, kind, knowledgeable and passionate. He went above and beyond to ensure that I got the most out of my time in the jungle and his ability to spot wildlife and provide insights into jungle life was simply extraordinary. Not only did Harley provide an exceptional wildlife expedition, he taught me about the foods and medicinal uses of the jungle and provided great insights into the lifestyle of the local people. We saw countless species of birds, snakes, spiders and monkeys, watched the sun rise and set, went canoeing and piranha fishing, swam in the Amazon and spotted pink and grey dolphins, explored giant trees and lilypads, saw prehistoric birds and went trekking deep within the jungle, not to mention the night walks. I feel incredibly grateful to have had Harley as my guide and am very appreciative to all of the other guides that assisted along the way. The best part about the company were the small groups. It felt very personal and it did not once feel like I was on a tour!
The accomodation was fantastic. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming and I was lucky enough to get a room to myself. The staff always catered for dietary restrictions and the food was amazing. The meals were buffet style so there was always plenty to eat. The thing that most impressed me was the organisation of the guides. We were always on time and knew the schedule in advance. The day was broken up into 3-4 main activities which each had their own uniqueness. The only downside was that we couldn't camp, but that was due to the water level at the time. I will be sure to visit again in the future for a camping trip!
Be sure to bring light coloured clothing and long shirts and pants to protect yourselves from the mosquito's!
I would highly recommend Remo Caspi tours and for your future jungle adventures, be sure to request Harley...
Read moreTwo of us embarked on the 3D/2N tour of the Yanayacu River tour which was overall a fantastic experience.
Our guide Andres was simply amazing. Having grown up in the jungle his knowledge of the flora and fauna was exceptional - always pointing out interesting properties and uses of the plants and giving us fruits directly from the trees to try.
He also worked relentlessly whilst we were there almost at any hour of the day he was able to help us with things such as going on night walks, or waking us early in the morning to watch the sunrise with dolphins. Andres also catered activities to what we wanted to do so it allows for some flexibility.
There are however a few things to be aware of on this trip. The first is the accommodation at the lodge is basic and extremely hot. The mosquito nets that surround the room had holes in it, so there were quite a few in the room, as well as several large cockroaches to add to the fun. It was a difficult night sleep as very little ventilation with no fan. In the jungle there were many mosquitoes as well so we ended up with quite a few bites. Having said this, this is an adventure into the Amazon so it should be expected to have to deal with these things.
Food was cooked for us every meal of the day and was generally good with basic food staples that the locals eat, including some fish that we caught one evening.
Another slight issue was that they don’t have their own boat to get to and from the location - it is essentially a taxi that you have to hop on. On the way back it took us a good 4 hours because we had to wait for another group to go and visit a zoo which we were not visiting. For the amount we paid we might expect to have our own boat there. (There are individual canoes and motor boats that are used once you have arrived there though).
Overall it was still definitely a 5-star experience and we made some unforgettable memories, largely thanks to Andres. Thank you to the team as well that organised it for...
