The Malecón is a nice boulevard along the Amazon River, in the centre of the world's largest city inaccessible by road - Iquitos. This is the only real tourist area of this bustling city that is the gateway to the Amazon jungle. There is always a strong police presence on this walkway, so it is totally safe for a tourist. It's great for a stroll at sunset or early morning, when it is not too hot. There are many good cafés around here, and some have a terrace offering great views of the mighty river. Ayahuasca seems a big thing in Iquitos, and many of these cafés offer Ayahuasca friendly diet options. The walkway is not strictly alongside the river directly, but the views are good. Police is close by for security purposes and down the stairs, there is a small market to get variety of regional souvenirs. The playground stopped working, the slide is not working and had to be replaced. Kids should not play in it. There is also foreigners selling bracelets, earrings and other stuff you can buy from to support them. Nice place to visit if you go to Iquitos.
