This place would be all right if it just focused on what it is, rather than what it thinks it ought to be. It's a basic, cheap and rather grubby backpackers hostel in the heart of Miraflores, and as far as that goes, it's great. You don't expect much for $6 (dorm room) and by God, you don't get it. If I were in my teens or early twenties and on a drunken ramble around Lima with a view to going to Cuzco etc etc (insert traveller cliche here) this is where I would stay. However, if you're older, want a private room, and want a little more than the basic, then give this place a wide berth. Its not like the advertising photos on the website. You could almost walk past it and not realise it was there (I didn't). You walk upstairs to the first floor after being buzzed in. It's dark, dingy and grubby. The furniture is old, broken and pieces are literally missing off it. The 'private patio' that comes with the $27 a night matrimonial rooms is in fact a box-like arrangement with a limited roof light, a plastic table and two chairs - I used it for drying my towels (inexplicably covered with ink blots). There were two half used cakes of soap glued to the top of my loo, which, by the way, runs all the time until you take off the top of the cistern and adjust the ballcock arrangement by hand. Someone with artistic aspirations has decorated the walls with ghastly ersatz pre-Columbian designs with the occasional llama thrown in. The lounge area is Stygian in its darkness, the furniture saggy and old, the TV massive and fuzzy (though not as bad as the one I had in my room). As for the 'satellite TV' advertised on the website, trust me, it isn't - you get one or perhaps two foreign channels, and they are apparently being viewed through a snowstorm. There is wifi but it's very slow, drops out constantly, and it took me 32 attempts to get online (I counted). There are two servers that only work in certain parts of the building. The roof terrace is unkempt and scruffy yet perfect for the backpackers who made a lot of noise up there the whole weekend I was staying. As I say, perfect for them. The dorms contain bunk beds with - I think - 8 beds total per room. Just what I used to have when I was twenty years younger. The staff are not particularly helpful but I found that I could get what I wanted (including extra coffee at breakfast) without too much trouble, although I speak Spanish so maybe easier for me. The lounge area, by the way , is always full of various teenagers who are presumably the kids of the owner as they don't seem to be working. They do however help get you online, or at least restart the wifi for you. The breakfast is two rolls, a sneeze of butter and a similarly small amount of jam, some watery fruit juice, plus the aforementioned coffee that will not drive coffeeholics wild with delight, believe me. The good news is that the news cafe coffee shop is right downstairs. In sum, stay for low budget shenanigans, avoid like the...
Read moreThe location is great, close to Parque Kennedy, restaurants, bars, banks, shopping centres and supermarket. We are a couple with a 2 year old and we stayed in a 4-person room with my mother in law. The room, beds, and bathroom were all very clean (although the place is a little run down and definitely not luxurious). Considering it is centrally loacted and on a main road, it is very quiet here (unusual for hotels in Lima). This does not seem like a party hostel (which suited us well). The breakfast is simple and the kitchen basic, but clean and had everything we needed for a few days. We found the staff very helpful and attentive. Our son was sick while we were here and they were very sympathetic and helpful. There is free wifi in all rooms and a computer available for use. The quality of the internet is good. The rooms had 24 hour hot water (which was actually hot and consistent,...
Read moreThey need some serious improvements in this hostel. It's in a good central location close to everything you need, showers are good, some staff could speak English, they have a balcony area on the rooftop...and that's pretty much all positive about this place, everything else is seriously unacceptable. Rooms are not clean, sheets and pillows smell mouldy, broken power points in the room I stayed (that's a fire hazard waiting to happen!), they don't even provide a bar of soap for private rooms, broken antenna cable for the tv, dark yellow lights in the room, kitchen and dining area looked so dirty, I didn't have breakfast there at the end even though it's included in the booking. For a short stay it's ok but there are other better...
