There is absolutely nothing wrong with Inka Paradise. The rooms were very clean, a little basic, but I feel like that's to be expected in such a small town. The layout of the hotel was a bit confusing, there were a few times I went up the wrong stairs.
The only thing I can say that is a drawback, is the location. The entrance to the hotel is located off a narrow dirt alley. A single, small car can drive down it, but I don't think it's meant for vehicles. It's also not very well lit.
The highlight of this hotel is the courtyard though. Mario, the owner, takes a lot of pride in the plants that grow, and birds that visit and live there. The biggest highlight being the Giant Hummingbirds (Patagona gigas). I spent hours photographing the birds and flowers. Read moreWe stayed at the Inca Paradise Hotel as part of a tour group. It was our night before starting the Inca Trail Hike.
The grounds are beautiful with a courtyard full of flowers. The room was spacious however the bed was extremely firm and hard to sleep on. We were woken very early but a rooster on the property next door (not their fault but did make for a grumpy start to the morning).
The breakfast was poor. A bread roll and average eggs. We asked for a second serve of eggs as we are gluten free and couldn't eat the bread. The staff made the eggs and then as we went to check out we were told of the extra cost for the extra serve. The cost was minimal, however when we explained to the host that this wasn't told to us when we placed the request he was dismissive and rude.
I wouldn't be staying here on...
Read moreA basic hotel by some standards but this wonderful hotel serves backpackers and tourists who are trekking in this beautiful part of Peru. Set in stunning surroundings, this friendly hotel may not boast lots of "mod-cons but the rooms have a cosy feel. Set on two levels with a balcony all around the upper floor, overlooking the sheltered courtyard which has beautiful flowers and is a great place to relax. This appears to be typical of the type of hotels here in Ollantaytambo which is a very small town and relies heavily on tourism. There are lots of hostels and budget bnbs and on this basis I think the Inca paradise is a gem of a place to stay and I...
