Katy was an amazing host while we were in Ollantaytambo. The accommodations were clean and very comfortable, and waking up each morning to a beautiful view of the Sacred Valley enjoying a cup of coffee was awe-inspiring. Katy was the most helpful, friendly and compassionate host we've ever had on our travels. The amount of things she helped us with is almost too many to name, but she deserves to be recognized for all she did for us. She arranged to have a private taxi pick us up from the airport in Cusco to drive us straight to her wonderful hostel in Ollantaytambo. She helped us book our tickets to Machu Picchu by taking us into the neighboring town of Urubamba where we could purchase the pass. We all climbed into the taxi, and when we arrived she became very passionate because our driver tried to charge us "gringo" prices, for which she gave him quite a tongue lashing. She also took us to authentic Peruvian cuisine twice. At one point I mentioned my favorite dish was papa rellena, so she took us to the local market to pick up the materials to teach us how to make it. She taught us how to make pisco sours as well since she is an amazing bartender and used to work in Cusco. Katy is also very accomplished at knitting scarves which she has for sale at the hostel. They were very high quality and not once did she push us into buying them. She didn't even mention them until the last day when she was making Pisco sours for us in the little cafe downstairs and they were on display behind her and we asked about them. She even taught us how to tell the authentic high quality versions from the knock offs. On the last day we said our goodbyes, and told her we were on our way back to Cusco to catch a flight to Lima. We had expressed earlier that we wished we had more time to visit some of the other historical sights like the Salinas de Maras, Moray, Sacsayhuamán and Pisac. So she arranged a private taxi to take us to all of those places on our way to Cusco, fulfilling our wish list and making for an unexpected and amazing journey back. Side note, she had a sweet litter of puppies while we were there so we got to hold and play with them between...
Read moreWe stayed at the hostel Chaska Wasi for 2 nights after our self-guided Salkantay trek (Mollepata to Hidroelectrica). After taking a long collectiva ride from Hidroelectrica to Ollantaytambo we walked directly to Chaska Wasi as my sister in law had previously stayed there and highly recommended it.
We got in relatively late with no reservation and Katty welcomed us in and got us settled with a room with no fuss. After the trek and collectiva ride through the white out fog conditions on mountain roads at 5,000 meters elevation I was very comforted by her hospitality.
The room was great and the location excellent. This hostel is in the transition area from the local part of town to the 'tourist' part of town. Close to everything but far enough away from the busyness to not be distracting.
Katty's dog Winy (I am spelling that wrong I'm sure) was friendly and led us to the market for quinoa macca, breakfast sandwiches, fresh juice, and coffee. After we were settled he jumped up and headed out for his day.
Katty was super friendly and helpful and had great suggestions on where to eat and different ways to experience the sacred valley ruins.
I would recommend this hostel and will definitely stay here again...
Read moreA very nice and cozy hostal close to the main square of Ollantaytambo. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished. I definitely love the design and all the small details. The views are also breathtaking as the hostal is situated in the Sacred Valley. The owner is the most helpful, warm, friendly and welcoming person you can imagine. When my partner got sick she went to the doctor with us, cooked a delicious chicken soup and help him get back on his feet. 100000% recommended! If you are looking for a cozy place with beautiful rooms and a host that will not hesitate to share her knowledge, experience and advice about just everything - that’s where you should come.
Ollantaytambo is a quiet but stunning town - you will find everything you need here - cobbled narrow streets, Inca ruins, good restaurants and unlimited amount of hiking trails. If you are around don’t forget to go to Inti Punku, Pumamarca or salineras de Maras. And of course in the town itself there are Ollantaytambo ruins (you can access them if you buy boleto turístico for Ollantaytambo,...
