Lunch here was so good we had to come back for dinner
We can't recommend Elianas restaurant enough to anyone visiting Ollantaytambo and here is why... When we arrived in Ollantaytambo our guide recommended we have lunch here. The owner Eliana (who speaks English very well) keeps her restaurant true to her local origin and serves mainly typical peruvian dishes. We were seated outside on the balcony overlooking the market square and with direct view of the Inka terraces. It is likely the best view of any of the restaurants on the square. The alpaca steak was cooked to perfection. I asked for rare to medium rare and what I received was on point. The seasoning was amazing and the side of quinoa with local Anden cheese was to die for. My wife is vegetarian and ordered stuffed pepper with lots of vegetables which I tried as well and can say it was top notch. When we left she told us about her traditional peruvian soups. We initially wanted to explore another place for dinner but every place we looked at seemed to be very touristy, a lot of them focusing on pizza. So we decided to go back and were welcomed very warmly by Eliana. We ordered her traditional quinoa and pumpkin soups. Most vegetables are grown in her nearby garden. She also brought us her homemade salsa with herbs and spices from her garden. Delicious! I had to have the Alpaca again and again it did not disappoint. My wife tried the trout which thanks to the aromatic peruvian herbs and spices she rated as the best trout she's ever had. Both times the services we received was very friendly, warm and fast at the same time and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality...

It also felt safe, they gave us hand sanitizer before we ate and other reviews suggested it as a restaurant where you won't get sick.
Enjoyed having beers and cocktails on the balcony looking at the Incan archeological site and the mountains.
And owners were delightful. Kind hearts. Eliana noticed we were in trouble in the plaza and came out and stayed for a long time helping us. The machu picchu trains were cancelled so everyone needed transport and no one was free to take us to our out of the way accommodation, at the end of a long day of disrupted travel. Eliana attempted to call us a taxi (all busy) and then got hold of a family friend who drove us home. Saved us. Thanks guys, you gave us good memories.
ps. they're on the second floor, entrance is through quite an unassuming door directly off the plaza. Worth...

The balcony gives you a postcard, perfect view of Ollantaytambo’s terraces , great for pondering the mysteries of ancient engineering while sipping mint, andina lemonade that tastes like a cool breeze straight from the Andes.
Tried the alpaca steak , tender enough to make you question your meat ethics mid, bite , and the quinoa soup warmed my soul and probably realigned a chakra or two. The family, run vibe is strong here , the owner greets you like a long, lost cousin, and you might leave with a hand, woven poncho or at least a warm hug in tea form.
Vegetarians, rejoice , they don’t just tolerate you here, they cook for you like you’re the favorite child. Veggie lasagna? Holy quinoa. Ceviche? Heavenly trout,y tang.
🦙 Bonus: You might spot a llama across the square. Or maybe that’s just the high,altitude...
