We took our four daughters, ages 12, 12, 15 and 17 to Cusco, Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu for ten days. While the highlights were too many to count our stay at Parwa House in Ollantaytambo was fantastic.
A few details that I would have benefitted from before going: I had no set reservation for us before we left, just a handshake from the dueño made over WhatsApp before we left. Stressful but fine. We arrived and found that our two rooms were not immediately available (planned as such to accommodate the 6 of us). No problem, the lovely staff, Jorge, took care of us and gave us a lovely patio section all to ourselves. The map of Ollantaytambo, and Parwa House’s location within it, make it look like it’s far from the action. It’s not, period. Ollantaytambo is small, and you’re no more than 3 minutes walking from anywhere.
High points: The views. Good grief, the views. We were on the upper deck of the hotel and it was nothing short of amazing. Mountains, ruins, all. Breakfast is tasty, on time, tidy, and quite pleasant looked forward to it every morning. The space. The whole house feels livable, welcoming, and warm. Attention to little details that make the place seem special - which I’d argue that it is. The people. Don Jorge was an absolute pleasure to be around. He saw us walking out with our laundry and offered to do it for us. No pressure - was just kindly offering. All breakfast staff friendly and pleasant. The location. Quiet enough just slightly removed from downtown, but not so removed as to be remote or isolated in any way.
The rooms: Simple. Comfortable. These are not luxury suites, but the beds are comfortable and warm, the bathrooms clean and shining, and the water is hot. Great value to feel safe and welcomed - I think we paid around 320USD for three rooms for two nights, and 12kg of laundry. To us it felt like a deal.
I have no idea when we will be back to Peru - this was our first time back together in 20 years. But when we do return, we will spend more time in Ollantaytambo and I’m sure we will...
Read moreThis is a small family owned hotel that will make you feel home. They have inexpensive rooms prices where you share the bathroom with other guests, but the hotel has beautiful and comfortable suites with private bathrooms. I took pictures of it and almost upgraded.
Jorge is a very friendly person who did everything he could to accommodate us on whatever we needed, including serving us breakfast really early so we could take the train to Machu Picchu. The hotel is 10 minutes away from the train station (walking), and on a street a little bit off the main area, which is really nice. It is also 10 minutes from the main ruins, and literally 2 minutes from the entrance to the Pinkuylluna Trail.
Jorge made arrangements for us to be picked up by a private car in Cuzco, take us around the Sacred Valley, and then take us back using a different route three days later when we returned to Cuzco. Each way was about $95 with tip –but that was because it took us a whole day, so it is actually cheat for a private tour, and we were in 4.
I added some images here of some of the places we went on the way to Ollantaytambo - Maras, Chincheros, Moray.
The view of hotel room was amazing. I added a picture here. It was awesome waking up in the morning at 6 am with that view. I took great pictures of the ruins with no one there.
My two sisters, niece, and I stayed at the Parwa Guest House two different times during our trip to Peru on the week of Corpus Christi celebration on June of 2017. Because it is a big festival in Cuzco, we were the only guests at the hotel, and it was awesome! The breakfast was so nice, and Jorge’s family is so detail oriented. They even put flowers all over the hotel even though we were the only guests at the time.
I highly recommend staying at the Parwa Guest House, and if I ever go back, which I do want to go back, I will stay there...
Read moreWe (two adults and two kids) recently stayed at Parwa Guesthouse for three nights in the Panoramic Suite and had a great experience. The guesthouse was easy to find, and although there are 7–8 steps to reach the entrance, it wasn’t a problem—just take your time going up.||Our host, Jorge, was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay.||The suite was clean, spacious, and very welcoming. The beds were comfortable, and the setup was perfect for our family—the Panoramic Suite has two rooms connected by a bathroom in the middle. There were plenty of power outlets, and they all accepted US plugs. While the voltage is 220V, most phone chargers are universal, so it wasn’t an issue.||The highlight was the view—we had a stunning look at the Ollantaytambo ruins right from our room.||Wi-Fi worked perfectly during our stay.||My only complaint was with the shower and tub. The tub’s drain stopper was missing, so we couldn’t use it, and the water handle was also missing, though we managed to get it working. The tub also made the bathroom feel cramped, with the toilet positioned uncomfortably close. Personally, I’d prefer a walk-in shower instead.||Some travelers in Ollantaytambo mentioned issues with hot water, but we had no problems—even with all four of us showering back-to-back.||Breakfast was excellent, featuring coffee, fresh fruit, juice, and scrambled eggs. The dining area, located next to the garden, was beautifully arranged. Jorge was even kind enough to leave snacks for our early departure, which we really...
