(Jan. 2014) the hike up Pinkyulluna is worth the fantastic view of Ollantay. And the colorful textiles on the locals and Reyes Festival in early January is a special sight to see. Moray Inca's crop circles in Jan. is perfectly green and the weather is not too cold. The fortress is not the only sight to see in this small town....other ruins that sit on the edge of town near the train tracks. I enjoyed Ollantay's charm so much I had more of it recently (Jun. 2014). I have to admit the greens of summer make the town feel brighter, but it's nice and warm in the sunshine during the winter....but freezing when the sun leaves and the moon is out..so be sure to buy yourself a traditional Peruvian style hat to keep warm. Maras Salt Fields near by is a must see. Lastly, filling your tummy with Chirimoya will make you jump for joy!:) The hostel's location is amazing!
(Jul. 2015) CAUTION women please be alert and just use your best judgement. All complaints about the sexual harassment at this particular establishment you read on other review sites are not fabricated (I apologize on behave of the brave women who shared their experiences on reviews to help others and were labeled as liars because of a personal ordeal). I have had experience with this "Peruvian Man" style of lying. They will tell you things like I don't have a girlfriend (which is technically true)...but they have a wife. Or they will tell you I am not involved with anyone (which is technically true again)...but they have a baby with another woman who they treat terribly behind their backs. Not telling the entire story then claiming its NOT lying...is a popular method to make you feel good at the moment with cheap words...I have experienced a Peruvian man chasing after me for over a year ...while he mistreated two women he had babies with dishonesty ...Men like this will never learn unless we women don't accept their crap!!! . ...Pet names "BB, princesa, etc..." they use for all women...makes juggling multiple women easier as they will never F up by calling you the wrong name because you are all his "baby" etc......Women..please, use your best judgement!
Admitting my mistake for falling for such a man...lets be more honest..The Pros above come along with Cons::this establishment is budget accommodation..you get what you pay for...this place is was not the cleanest of hostels I have experienced at the time..it was low in lighting giving it a dark feel... using the slightly far shared bathroom (which smelled horribly and was not clean!) outside is was not an enjoyable experience when its freezing outside! BUT the place is a doable average quick cheap stay if all you need is one or two nights before heading to MP and having a quick tour of the ruins of Ollantay.
Marie, please just accept the man you protect so much is not nice to you behind your back. It is all like a tabloid...trying to paint a good face for the public in order to cover the mess behind closed doors!! I am sorry but the words you heard came from Caly's mouth..Don't kill the messenger! Be thankful I am honest...could be worse (sadly there are women who would not mind being a secret love)... WAKE UP!!! if Caly was so sincere with you why would he keep pursing me over a year later even after I kept pushing him away in so many ways...don't waste your energy getting upset at me (or call me to threaten me) when I am respecting the fact that Caly is NOT an honest man and not giving into his behavior. I am thankful to you because you helped me see Caly's lack of integrity...You can choose how to handle him but remember you deserve better..a REAL MAN...not a man who lacks integrity..Believe you deserve better! ...don't complain if you keep turning a blind eye to his behavior towards you. Please, respect yourself more by not letting a man smile to your face to personally benefit himself but is ugly behind your back. With Warmth Jennifer PS Mama Carmen sent her thanks though Caly for all my words of kindness...My apologies to the public for voicing a personal ordeal. I felt voicing the truth...
Read moreLocated near the Plaza, Inka King Hotel is a family-owned hostel that has friendly and attentive staff. We received a daily check-in with the staff to ensure our comfort and asking if we wanted breakfast in the morning. We loved our stay and would recommend coming back here again!
The location is conveniently situated just a few steps from the main square, offering a sense of safety while enjoying the surrounding sights. The views from the second floor, featuring the mountains, added a breathtaking touch to our mornings. Our stay also included breakfast that was mostly freshly cooked eggs, bread, butter, and jam. The staff were very flexible and understanding when we planned an overnight trip to Machu Picchu, and allowed us to leave our bags and return to the same room. Additionally, the staff provided valuable information about the local area, including a detailed map of Ollantaytambo and recommendations for activities, which was a bonus. Also, we were able to get on their internet with no problems and paid our stay via credit card. We had no problem with the English interaction as one of the staff interacted decently well with us.
However, potential guests should be aware that rooms facing the street can be quite noisy due to local activity during the morning and nighttime. The walls are slightly thin so maybe some earplugs if necessary. Accessibility could also be a concern, as the hotel does not have an elevator and guests must navigate stairs to reach their rooms. Do keep in mind, their hot water takes a bit to adjust and heat up but thankful to have hot water!
PS, their recommendation for Apu Veronica was a great...
Read moreGiven the hotel’s tripadvisor ranking as a top value B&B hotel, the experience was disappointing. First, both feather-filled comforters in our double -bed room were stained, with dust/dirt on them. While copious blankets were much appreciated in a time where temperatures drops quite low, if you can’t wash them regularly, I would rather have comforters made of some other materials. Dust and a few dead bugs were left strewn about in various places in the room. Second, hot water shower was not available until we alerted someone who had to turn something on. In addition, only a small weak stream of water came from the sink faucet. What was apparently once a soap holder in the shower was removed and not replaced. Third, I specifically emailed the hotel ahead of time to confirm that they accept credit card but at check-in, the woman wanted cash. Lastly, the so-called terrace was boarded up with plywood and dirty acrylic glass, and several sofas were stacked up and pushed against the edge, further blocking what little view there was left. It was now more of a storage area rather than a welcoming place to hangout, let alone enjoy a view. The saving grace was that the wifi was very good and the hotel staff was friendly and responsive to our hot water request. It’s not clear if our experience was due to the fact that it was now the shoulder tourist season or something else. The price is cheaper than other hotels in the area but given its ranking (other positive reviews), I expected a cleaner and...
