SHAME ON THE OWNER OF THE ESTABLISHMENT
I came early in the morning telling them that I MIGHT stay for one night but that I need to wait for my friend to reach Cusco to make a final decision. In the meantime, the person in charge (not the owner) tells me that I can leave my bag in a safe room and go to town. When I came back, and after talking with my friend, we decided to stay somewhere else.
They asked me to pay 10 soles for keeping my bag without even informing me of this condition earlier in the morning. What a shame! What mentality is this? I felt cheated.
The owner who was totally unfriendly came to the hostel with two police agents and we had to debate the situation for 20 minutes. It resulted that they wouldn't allow me to get my bag back if I don't pay and they would bring me to the tourism police office to fix the problem. The police checked my passport and my legality to stay in the country.
Later the owner added that I also went to the toilet and used the wifi which is also an extra cost. What a joke!!! I finally offered to pay 5 soles for the lack of communication from both sides which she agreed.
My opinion is that the establishment MUST inform the client of its services and conditions so that the client can make up his mind based upon them.
7 years of travels and this is the first time it happens to me in a hostel. I felt ashamed and disgusted to see how things work in Peru. I can only NOT...

Read moreI really enjoyed my stay at Explorer Hostel in Cusco. Although getting there can be a bit tricky at first, it’s absolutely worth it. The place is super clean—honestly one of the cleanest hostels I’ve seen in the city. The staff clean regularly, and you really notice the difference compared to other places.
The kitchen is excellent—spacious, well-equipped, and includes a large fridge where you don’t have to squeeze your food into crowded shelves. It’s one of the few hostels in Cusco where you’re actually allowed to cook, which makes a big difference for longer stays or if you're on a budget.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the owner is truly kind and generous. The price is very reasonable for the quality you get.
The only small downside is that some rooms don’t get direct sunlight, but everything else about the hostel more than makes up for it. There’s even a big screen TV for relaxing in the common area. Highly recommended if you're looking for a clean, welcoming, and well-equipped place to...
