My overall experience was frustrating and disappointing.
Upon arrival, I was immediately met with a terrible odor coming from the kitchen sink. The staffโs solution was to pour water down the drain and spray an excessive amount of air freshenerโdespite the fact that I had a two-month-old baby with me. Unsurprisingly, this did nothing to resolve the issue. The odor lingered, and to make matters worse, my baby and I kept sneezing throughout the night due to the overwhelming dust in the room. Unable to tolerate these conditions, I requested to be moved to a different room.
The second room came with its own set of issues. The air conditioning units were unbearably noisy, and when maintenance checked, they found the filters clogged with thick dust. Additionally, one of the shower door hinges in the master bathroom broke and fell apart while I was showering. Despite these problems, I stayed in the room for a few days while maintenance attempted to address them. However, by the fourth night, I started feeling extremely itchy and noticed bite marks on my skin. Small flies were also present, making the room uninhabitable. At that point, I had no choice but to request another room change.
The only positive aspect of this floor was the housekeeper, Princess, who was incredibly accommodating and sincere in her service.
The third and final room was more spacious, but still riddled with problems. The electricity kept turning on and off during the first few hours, forcing maintenance to check the power card by the door and later replace the batteries. This constant disruption caused yet another delay in our plans. The cleanliness of the room was also questionableโhardened toothpaste stains were visible under the handle of the bathroom sink, a clear sign of neglect.
I requested room cleaning at 1 PM, yet no one arrived until 3 PM, further delaying my schedule. The housekeeper on this floor, Jaq (?), was extremely unprofessional. Instead of properly handling the roomโs trash bins, she dragged a large, clear plastic garbage bag filled with trash from other rooms while collecting garbage in mineโcompletely unsanitary and unhygienic. Despite seeing that I had a baby with me, she sprayed an excessive amount of air freshener in the bathroom. The most appalling part was her refusal to make the bed simply because a baby lounger and a play mat were on it. Rather than doing her job, she told me to remove them myself. This was by far the laziest and most incompetent housekeeper I have ever encountered.
On my last night, I started feeling itchy again. By morning, I discovered several bite marks on my face, and to my horror, my baby had also been bitten on the face. The bites could have been from mosquitoes, but they were accompanied by a rash and persistent itching, suggesting unsanitary linens as another possible cause. However, bed bugs cannot be ruled out. Regardless of the source, the presence of pests and poor hygiene was completely unacceptable.
I raised these concerns with guest services, but they were indifferent and unhelpful. When I mentioned the housekeeperโs behavior, they seemed completely unfazed and even ended the call in a hurry.
To make matters worse, the breakfast buffet was mostly inedible.
For the price I paid, this stay was absolutely not worth it. Had there been availability, I would have booked at Aruga instead. The only advantage of this poorly maintained property is its convenient location near the park. But overall, I wouldnโt recommend staying here. Donโt...
ย ย ย Read moreSCSM scores a 4.5 with me. As a several times returning guest I saw at this most recent stay that everyone at the Front Desk (Marianne, Carla, Rox, Pat, Jasmine), including the Bell staff (Jhommel, Dex, Mhel, Arnel, Ian, Nas, Rey, Cris), consistently conducted themselves in a professional manner and maintain the "At your service" attitude - courteous, helpful, knowledgeable, patient. We had a couple of minor issues in our room and upon calling Front Desk (bidet malfunction) and Housekeeping (broken weighing scale) the problems were resolved and needs met in no time. Joel of Housekeeping was extremely helpful and responsive to our requests - the hotel, it seems, no longer provides face towels and it is currently an 'upon request' item. Joel made sure we had them the next day and Housekeeping provided clean ones whenever we requested for our room to be cleaned. The shower door did not seal properly (probably over time) and so water would seep out and the bathmat would be soaked. After notifying Joel, he/Housekeeping provided an extra bathmat as a back-up from then on. On one occasion I witnessed a room being cleaned and at the same time another staffer was squatted down spraying the carpeting - this is good assurance. At Nonya Cafe, Jennifer, Danica and Danilo, as well as the other servers whose names I cannot remember, were pleasant and accommodating, and always at the ready. The daily breakfast buffet items offer many options and are promptly replenished. The one thing I would ask Nonya Cafe management is to discourage hotel guests from dining in their pajamas. Allowing this mars the reputation Nonya Cafe and SCSM want to uphold. I suggest a sign be posted at the restaurant's internal entrance/exit door as a subtle instruction to dine in appropriate attire. I speak highly of SCSM with relatives and friends, and look forward to...
ย ย ย Read moreOur stay at Somerset Central Salcedo Makati was overall excellent. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which really set the tone for a relaxing experience.
We booked both a 1-Bedroom Deluxe and a Studio Apartment, and to our surprise, both were impressively spacious. The 1-BR Deluxe, in particular, was a standout. It is not just roomy; it is a fully furnished apartment. It had a separate living area, a dining space, a complete kitchen with a large fridge, cooktop, and microwave, plus an in-unit laundry area. To top it all off, it had a bathtub, which was a lovely bonus for winding down.
The Studio unit was also surprisingly roomy and did not feel cramped at all, making it perfect for solo travelers or couples.
If you are planning a staycation, this is an ideal spot. You will have everything you need without having to step outside.
The pool is also nice. It is not very big, but it is a pleasant spot to relax, especially if it is not a busy day.
Only one hiccup during the stay: I called guest services to try and schedule a massage that was included in the promo my brother booked for us. Unfortunately, the staff who answered never followed up. I ended up falling asleep waiting and, sadly, never got to use the massage.
We also tried the buffet breakfast. While it was decent, the selection could still be improved to make the experience more enjoyable.
On a positive note, Kel (if I got the name right) from Nonya Cafรฉ deserves a shout-out for being incredibly patient and helpful.
All in all, I would definitely recommend Somerset Central Salcedo to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-equipped, and...
