Interesting space. Strongly recommended. Most worthy of your time. Come dressed in class and feel the art. Seasonal pieces displayed. I am most pleased with the ambiance and excellence in both the welcoming place, polite and friendly staff, and well-arranged exhibit style. It's a quick visit since the gallery is on the first floor only while the restrooms go way at the end of the hall of the same floor. And they let me take pictures too, although I was the only one doing my selfies. It's a nice gallery.
The people I saw were in coats and ties and dresses, all VIP I think and quite high-profile. There was an official photographer there. Today, I viewed for free Arnold Lalongisip's Simply Grey monochromatic art in acrylic that's featuring a spectacular blend of fantasy-Zen themed scenery.
The titles of his paintings were mostly in Japanese, good if you can understand them. Kuro for black, Shiro for white, and other words like Sora for sky and Mizu for water... it's quite self-explanatory when you see the work. Unspeakable and moving when you see the splendor of the work in grey tones. I was very fortunate to have spoken to the artist himself who told me of the triangular composition and how to look at the outward perspective. When I asked about several details of his works, he says he featured the Philippines' tagak bird because of its elegance. There's also a dove there and other small birds. He also showed the local mangroves in Zen style. I personally liked the contrast with the black and white stones - said he made the black smooth because the common ones are coarse; he made the white ones coarse because the common ones are smooth. Those two paintings are best bought together. There was a grand piece which he said he did lying down, and it blends the west mountains with the American eagle and the east with the middle mountains and the waters. Also featured a fantasy boat. I say his concept is stellar like one piece makes you feel the desire to retirement while another makes you go find peace in a yacht that stands still while the waters move. If you like scenic nature with a twist, now is a good time to check it out. The seasonal exhibit is only until next week.
Overall, if you want to unwind a little with a dose of refined perspective in the neighborhood, this gallery is indeed a good spot to visit from...
Read moreWe had visited Leon Gallery for an intimate viewing of the private collection due for an auction. It was a rather rainy evening, and we arrived at the venue, dressed casually due to prior engagements. Yet we were welcomed by very eager attendants nonetheless.
The gallery was sparsely lit, but decorated with paintings of venerated artists including Amorsolo himself.
Historic letters and photographs were filed away carefully, and were exposed only for a short period for us to look at.
It was quite the experience looking at fragments of our...
