IKOMAI TOCHI — Restaurant in Makati

One of the places we had been wanting to try. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, service was attentive and food was good.

On Wednesday night, it was bustling with people in groups having dinner. It is more of a place for afterwork dinner, very casual & informal. I found the lighting was bit too bright.

We had Corn soup: soup was good, subtle seasoning, enough for one person

Chicken Skin: crispy but softened by the sauce which was yum, but I do prefer my chicken skin crunchy & crispy

Tuna tartar: or something like that, I loved it, combination of texture was perfect. Well-seasoned raw tuna with fresh avocado bits.

Chicken Salad w/ miso sauce: chicken was shredded and soft, perfect combo with arugula. Not swimming in dressing, just how I like it.

Steamed Tuna: not the prettiest of the bunch, served with chopped okuras, mushrooms and onions. It was okay, not the strongest dish.

Sesame Matcha cake: love the combination of flavour with white chocolate crust, custardy matcha and cream cheese sesame for its body. Sold! Many to choose from and certainly will go back...

"IKOMAI TOCHI" is a stylish casual dining restaurant that has opened in Salcedo, Makati, where I instantly recognized the flavors of Nagoya when I tasted the miso soup. The grilled dishes, made with various types of miso, are exquisite. You can enjoy a variety of Nagoya street foods, including grilled items, chicken wings, and kushikatsu. The miso soup made with Hachiyo miso is particularly outstanding, showcasing the skillful use of miso in their culinary creations.

I had such a lovely experience here at Ikomai. It was our first time and they definitely exceeded our expectations! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully plated. The staff were alert (maybe because we were only a few early-dinner customers at the time) and they knew their menu well. One thing I'd like to note is that the pacing between meals was great. Other restaurants normally rush to serve the food and complete your order that sometimes your main dish is already cold by the time you're done with your appetizers. That's not the case with Ikomai-- I never felt rushed or overwhelmed. I got to enjoy every dish in it's own time, having good conversation while excitedly waiting for the next dish to arrive.
