The location is great, right next to the old town, with several trams very close. The showers were clean every time I had one (between 6pm and 9pm). These are the only positive things about this place, and you'll see that the negatives far outweigh them. I would never recommend to anyone to stay at this horrible place.
This is going to be a long one, but long story short : This place is very dirty, the people staying here are extremely disrespectful, and I felt unsafe. When I arrived, no one was at the front desk, and I never saw anyone there during my three days stay. An employee came and showed me my room, a guy was sleeping in the bed under mine with a bottle of vodka and a plate of pasta in his bed. That didn't seem to bother her. She gave me a locker. I think I could have broken the lock with my hands if I had wanted, my things didn't feel safe. I went to the toilets, which had just been cleaned, and headed out. When I came back at around 6pm, the guy was still sleeping, now with his pants down et butt out. He had put his jacket on the ladder and all of things and food right under it, so I had to move all of his stuff to access my bed. I had a shower, some 40 years old men look at me weirdly when I went back to the room, I didn't feel safe. I headed out again, and when I came back, the guy under my bed put his things back to where they were before. I told him not do that so that I could access my bed, it didn't seem obvious to him. The kitchen was extremely dirty. People left their dirty dishes everywhere, the fridge had probably never been cleaned, the floor was full of crumbs, even the tables were dirty. I had to clean everything I was about to use, and I didn't cook because I was so grossed out. The following morning, I went to the toilets, which were splattered in vomit. This would be the case every morning afterwards. The first and second nights went ok, appart from the occasional nuisance that is bound to happen in this kind of room, so no problem. When I went to pee during the night, there was a person sleeping on a couch, who seemingly wasn't a customer. Again, very reassuring given that there were no locks to the room doors. The beds are very uncomfortable. The mattress collapsed under me, and the pillow and comforter seemed very old, the inside had gathered in a bunch of hard balls. During the third night, the biggest problem became the most obvious : the people who stay here are extremely disrespectful. I went to bed at around 8pm because I was exhausted. I turned the lights off. A few hours later, someone was checking in. They left the room with the lights on and open door. I had to get up to turn them off and close the door. Later, another person came in and left the light on when they left, I had to get up a second time. The guy under my bed came back late, and was not discreet at all when getting into bed. I guess the beds being very noisy and moving easily didn't play in his favour. I woke up a 3am to someone's phone ringing. A light was on, I got up a third time to turn it off. I was so angry that I couldn't go back to sleep. The phone rang again thirty minutes later. In the morning, I was woken up by someone's alarm. Again, that's okay, it will happen when you stay in this kind of room. This person left there alarm ringing for a few minutes. I ended up deciding to tell them to stop it. I noticed then that the door of the room had again been left open. I got up a fourth time to close the door and told the guy to stop his alarm, which he did. I rang again five minutes later, for again several minutes, and I had to tell him AGAIN to turn if off. I managed to go back to sleep, and when I woke up, I gathered my things to leave this terrible place as quickly as possible. When I went to get my food in the fridge, it had disappeared, as a final gift from the horrible beings that populated this hostel. Just...
Read moreDodgy. They cancelled the booking on my last day so I couldn’t leave a HostelWorld review. Let’s start off with the positives, great location. The toilets and showers were clean enough, piss on the toilet seat always but apart from that they were fine. That’s it, that’s all the positives. We’d read some reviews about other guests looking through and stealing personal items so we booked a private room and thank god we did so. There was no lock to enter the main door of the hostel and no lock on the dorm rooms, only a code which I assume hasn’t been changed in a long time since there were people permanently sleeping on the couches who obviously hadn’t paid for a bed. The room was okay however lockers had keys and none were given to us, the curtains on the bunks were COVERED in black mould and the sheets were dirty. The kitchen was always dirty with no clean utensils left to use as there were half cooked meals sitting in them all over the room. We never felt safe in the hostel, there is a sign saying we do not have a receptionist here and without the locks it was very uncomfortable. On top of that this is NOT at all a youth hostel like it claims to be we only saw men walking around the hostel most of which looked between the ages of 50-70 and all they did was stare at us girls. One tried to open the shower door on my friend (the shower next to her was empty and the person could hear the water running) someone also tried to open the toilet on my other friend (the door was glass and they could see the light on). Someone also tried to get into our private room whilst we were all in there and after feeling it was locked quickly walked away. One of the men was walking around in a top that was covered in blood. To top it all off I woke up on the last morning to the hostel cancelling my HostelWorld booking purely so I couldn’t go back and leave a review on that platform, essentially admitting that they know how bad the reviews will be and not letting them come...
Read moreSo last monday me and the girls went to krakow for the week and stayed here at the Amethyst hostel& apartments. We stayed here last year in the apartments and had no problems atall so booked it again for this year. But this time we had to move apartments during the night due to being watched/followed by starting off with 1 polish man then ending up being 3-4 of them 1 being russian. I wont write it all in detail beacuse i would be here forever but basically we got watched from the first night of going in, to the same person everyday waiting for us outside our apartment every night turning lights off half way up stairs waiting in the dark for us, watching us outside, creeping up on us quietly out of nowhere etc etc, to the night we left where it ended up being 3 of them stood about waiting for us to get back making us run like we never have down the stairs so scared not knowing where to go or what to do. Then when confronting the 'reception man' about it he pleaded thick pretending he didnt know what we were on about and he couldnt understand us even when we showed him google translate. He also changed the code to get in the building that night yet it had been the same as last year....very strange how he all of a sudden changed it that night! The russian man also tried to take my friends phone off her. Eventually we plucked up the courage to go back in (checking noone was ther first) to get to our room to collect our things and passports and get out of there! We packed our cases in 10 minutes and left. None of us have ever felt so scared in our lives we cant even describe the sense of fear we felt, if we hadnt of left that night we honestly dont think we would be home now!! ||So please anyone going or if you know anyone going please spread the word and DO NOT stay here!! It deffinitly is not a safe place to stay and deffinitly doesnt have safe people in it!! ||||AMETHYST...
