Visiting Bar Smak is like being invited to Sunday lunch by a Polish grandmother. The food is authentic, hearty and incredibly tasty. I especially recommend the pierogi, which are soft, filled with potatoes and cottage cheese, with crispy onions on top - absolute perfection. Żurek is another star - a sour soup with sausage and egg, which will warm not only the stomach but also the soul. The prices are surprisingly low - a main course will cost you 40-50 PLN (about 240-300 CZK), which is almost a miracle in the center of Krakow. Read moreFor me, this was the most unpleasant experience in a restaurant in Poland. We've wanted to try this restaurant since our first day there, and we decided to try it on our last day in Krakow. We wanted traditional Polish food, which is what the restaurant advertises. You can get pierogi just like elsewhere, so we wanted a different main course. The traditional Silesian beef goulash with dumplings wasn't available. When we were undecided, we asked if we could add dumplings to another dish to make it more traditional. We would have had to pay an extra 10 zl per person (!!) for this. We ended up choosing the dish with fried potatoes. Only at the end were we told that the chicken noodle soup wasn't available either and that we would have to have the tomato soup instead. We politely declined and asked for the bill for the drinks (0.2l Pepsi + 0.2l Mirinda = 18 zl). When the waitress went to get the bill, she complained loudly to her colleague (in English lol) that we want to leave because we didn't want to eat the tomato soup. However, the restaurant simply couldn't accommodate the customer at all. Absolutely deplorable behavior and very...
Read moreThe food was average and the service was terrible.
The waiters were rude to us. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:15pm, they didn’t have most of the things on the menu already. Then I ordered a main course, the pork rib with roasted potatoes and salad, which should come with a soup, but the waiter told me that they didn’t have soup anymore, and they won’t provide any alternatives or compensation. It’s sad to hear that, but I understood these could happen. What disappointed me further was the attitude of the waiters. When my food arrived, the roasted potatoes of the dish got switched into fries WITHOUT any prior notice. I asked the waiter if they messed up the food, she glared at me with wide eyes and said that’s all they have and they’re gonna close soon. She’s giving me the attitude as if I’d done something wrong. She could’ve said it calmly because I asked her politely.
