I would not recommend it,
Firstly, the mattress was the hardest most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. We were tossing and turning all night because our hips were so sore. I really cannot exaggerate how shockingly uncomfortable and unbearable this bed was.
There were a bunch of hidden fees all around the apartment that were not stated in the booking or verbally voiced to us, even though we had a 40 minute conversation with the host when we got there. 25 Euro charge to use the stove, which you could only use for breakfast. 7 Euros per load of laundry, and 28 Euros for "city tax," that we had to give in cash. It was not baked into the total price when we booked.
The moment we arrived there, the host took us into his office and talked for a lengthy amount of time about "our government," speaking negatively about America. (Not that it is unjust, but we would have rather talked about the hidden fees.)
There was no detailed walk through of the place. No signs explaining how to use anything. Frankly, I have never stayed somewhere with less signage and information.
What might have been the worst part to me, is that he told two young girls that the part of town the hostel was in, was totally safe. Every other local we talked to, Uber drivers and all, told us we were staying in the worst part of town, and that it was very unsafe. This could be a reflection of Xenophobia from the locals, however Lisbon as a whole did not feel particularly safe to us. It would have meant a lot to us if he could have been honest about that, as young girls traveling by ourselves.
The wifi hardly worked, no matter the time of day. This can be said about the hot water too. The shower drains were both clogged our entire stay.
Lastly, the cherry on top was the bright red panties that weren't ours, welcoming us...

Since I was alone I decided to go cheap. Well it seems you get what you pay for, or more accurately you don't get that for which you do not pay.||||Even with GPS it was hard to locate the actual building. There's no real sign. When you do show up the place is locked then you have to call somebody to let you in. I stood outside for probably five minutes.||The staff was polite but seemed very overworked.||||There was secured parking, fortunate because I imagine you need secured parking in that part of town. It was somewhat difficult to maneuver through their parking garage. ||||The rooms were old, dingy and the bedding was uncomfortable. Amenities were nonexistent. There was a shared bathroom and a shared kitchen area. I believe there was laundry facilities although I did not use them so I cannot accurately comment.||||The area did not seem very inviting after dark. It is certainly not the type of place that I would want to take my friends.||||However the most difficult thing was the noise. There was so much noise outside on the street that I basically didn't sleep at all.||||Overall I personally would not stay here again. The price is attractive, but the downsides far exceed...
Read moreWe feel bad writing a poor review for the Macedo B&B because the main proprietor (a slightly older gentleman) was extremely friendly, but can't in good conscience recommend to someone coming through Lisbon. The location is quite out of the way from the heart of Lisbon's main attraction, making for about a 30min walk back from most places at the end of the day - mostly along a big street that wasn't particularly scenic. The b&b itself is also in need of some updating - the wifi was really spotty even in the main hallway and didn't work at all in our room; the bathroom we used appeared to be shared by the owners and wasn't very clean (especially the shower) or tidy; and the "breakfast" was very meager - just cornflakes and frozen bread that you could toast (and on the last day we were there, the milk was all gone so just toast). What really made the experience uncomfortable though was being roomed next to the proprietors' living area and hearing them having a very heated shouting match on our first night. We understand that people have to live their lives, but they could have at least closed the door and/or be a little more considerate that they have paying guests literally 10ft down the hall. Overall very disappointed...
