This hotel is located in the best location, where the ratio of proximity to famous sights and silence is in perfect harmony. However, the location cannot justify the price. The breakfast (which we paid for) is shameful. There are no hot dishes (eggs, sausage, bacon etc.). The toaster works half-way, that is, only half the racks for slices of bread, and it is also the only warm thing you will eat at breakfast (if you fight your way through the line for toasting). The food is not brought fast enough, so it can happen that 1 croissant is on a serving plate even though there are 10 people in the dining area for about 20 minutes... and then only 3 more croissants are brought. Also, of the two types of cheapest salami, one has a bad (rotten) taste, and the other has no taste. If you want fruit, it is estimated that you will not be able to eat a whole kiwi or orange, so the fruit is served in transparent thin slices. You can also eat cold mini crepes and mini pastel de nata (which I would suggest you skip because it has no taste). The rooms are standard in size, however the double room has one chair and zero towel racks. It has one grid and that's it. It is obviously not intended that someone does not want their room cleaned every day and that they want to use the same towel more than one day/time. Cleanliness - in principle, the hotel is clean and office-like at first glance. However, in the room itself, there was a brownish scale stain on the floor of the shower, which I managed to clean in 2 minutes with my travel sponge and soap. So, by the same principle, limescale and everything else could have been better cleaned by people who were paid for it, and not by those who pay for that service. Although this is a problem for the entire center of Lisbon, it should be noted that in the evening you can see cockroaches the size of a baby's finger on the glass entrance to the hotel. The staff at the reception and the staff working in the restaurant and cleaning seem friendly, speak good English and were happy to help us with advice about public transport and other issues.
Therefore, although the price of this hotel is high, it is not fully justified by the service...
Read moreIf like me you like small informal hotels you will love this place||It is a stones throw away from the railway station, the metro and the river ||We landed very late evening but we were given a really warm welcome ||We were given recommendations of places to visit and restaurants close by||We booked a standard room which was lovely, spotlessly clean and comfortable ||It had probably the best shower I have ever had in a hotel powerful and hot.||Breakfast was the usual found in most hotels, fruit pastries, cheese and hams fruit juices and coffee and pancakes but there was nowhere to warm these up as I think they are better warm ||Only small complaint is all the yoghurts were plain and some warm food would have been nice ie eggs||We were kept awake on just one night by somebody constantly walking around their room above which the hotel is not responsible for just selfish people||Other than that the rooms were really quiet||We caught the metro from the airport and it was a couple of minutes walk to the hotel when we arrived||We also caught the train to Cascais on the coast which was a nice day out||You can catch a boat close to the railway station to go across the river to see the statue of Christ which you can also go to the top and see the amazing views over the city||I would also recommend a train ride to Belém to try the best Portuguese tarts I have ever tasted||As previous people have mentioned the staff at the hotel were amazing. They were so friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble||We wouldn’t stay anywhere else if we ever return to Lisbon. A very big thank you...
Read moreOverall, we had a great stay at Riverside Alfama. The location is perfect for walking to main attractions and is located right next to many great shops and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there is a cute tile shop attached to the lobby. The room was very quiet as well, and turn down service was done daily.
A few things to note: The linens (i.e. bedsheets and towels) had a mildew smell to them - even the fresh ones - like what happens when you forget the laundry in the washer for a day or two. The fourth floor hallway had a strange smell as well, but not to strong that it made us request a change or anything. Breakfast was very good for what it was, which included a lot of fresh pastries, bread, yogurt, fruit, and sliced cheese and ham. There are no hot items and it's very heavy on sweet pastries and lacks savory items like eggs to balance the breakfast, but everything was fresh and baked day of. They start the breakfast pretty late at 8:00, but we're able to accommodate a 7:30 breakfast if requested a day in advance, which was nice.
I do feel like the nightly rate was pretty high for what was offered (we paid 210€ per night) but overall I would recommend staying here, especially if you're visiting Lisbon at a time when...
