We looked to book an apartment in Lisbon through a well known online booking site. We found this property and booked in. We had a great response from the owners, especially Joanna who was so attentive to our needs. Every step of the way from booking to arriving was no trouble for her, the advice and information she sent to us was excellent. We arrived at Lisbon airport looking for the best way to get to the apartment, and we took the aerobus Not the best start, this drops you in different parts of town depending on where you are staying, but to get to orange 3 house use the metro, you can then walk up a gently sloping street to the top of the furnicular, turn left, down a steep street and left again. The route is pretty straightforward. Warning, here, if you like to be in a quiet backwater where there is no life, no interest and no atmosphere, you better look elsewhere! This district is humming with life. The funicular is a national monument, rattling meters from your windows, with all the charm and brilliance of the city itself. The welcome... Joanna gave us so much information when we arrived, she explained about transport and travel, some things to go to, some to avoid! The apartment itself was spotless, it felt brand new, light clean and tidy, the pictures do not do it justice. ||||||Why here,? Because it is so close to the heart of the City, an fantastic district and lovely people. ||||||Getting around, use a top up card if you can, it makes things cheaper per trip. The funicular is a particularly goo ride, but excellent when you have tired legs! The buses are a treat, they go everywhere, and just swipe on. The 15E tram is the best way to Belum, get it just near the railway station, tis is a modern tram. The old rattle trams can be uncomfortable, and we found the number 28 tram a bit of a chore to be honest, hold on tight and avoid pickpockets....||||||Belum is great, the queues are legendary though, and if you visit the monastery, the tower and the pastry shop. you better be prepared to spend the whole day!||||Take a boat trip too, we used the "sailing boat" for a river cruise, it was lovely, the lads who took us were very welcoming, even to the extent of a nice glass of white wine! All for 25 euros. Great values for money.||||Likes.... Food, drink, especially sangria, the pizza geletaria at Belum, Cherry wine shots, and of course our accommodation. Metro and buses, general atmosphere and shops. Churches, cafes, pretty much everything.||||||Dislikes, No 28 tram, Those daft custard tarts, queuing at the belum sites. ||||||Altogether our favourite City break, and our best ever hosts.||||Thanks again Joanna, just keep a place free for us when we are...
Read moreWe rented 3 of the apartments. ||||The lower level apartment was a bit small with a bit of a musty smell but the air conditioner took care of the odor and worked extremely well. It had a good bed. The shower was very small but good if you are one person travelling.||||The middle room had 3 big windows overlooking the orange trees and alleyways. The bed was comfortable and the a/c worked well.||||I had the top floor. I loved the big windows with a small balcony overlooking the trees and alleyways. You could put 1/2 the chair out to sit and enjoy the fresh air. My shower was excellent and my bed was excellent as well. Unfortunately, the air conditioning did not work. The host was extremely helpful with communication and getting my a really good fan. I slept fine as it was not too hot at night in July thankfully. I believe they were getting the ac fixed the day I left and like I mentioned the other apartments ac worked very well so Im sure this one will too. ||||The communication with the host and the gal that runs the place was SO NICE. They really go out of their way to make certain everything is good. I am a bit surprised they did not offer me a bit of compensation for the air conditioner but they really do make sure you are enjoying their facility.||||There is no breakfast but an adequate kitchen facility with basic utensils/pots in room if you choose to get groceries and cook.||||A minor issue for us, but some may not like the noise. We were there on a Saturday night, and the 2 bottom level rooms were very noisy. My upper room was great because I sleep with a white noise machine- slept like a baby haha..but not the rest of my family. Sunday and Monday nights were fine though. ||||There is a coffee stop at the top of the hill with excellent pastries and cappicino in the mornings. It opens at 730. I could not find anywhere open before that as I am an early riser. The Time Out Market is just down the hill. Excellent for lunch with a wide selection of food vendors. ||||Get an uber from the airport for 12 euros (just make sure you are at the pickup location before calling- its in the parking lot at departures). It drops you at the top of the hill and you have to walk down a few steps to the apartments.||||Great location. Lots of steps. We enjoyed the apartment and the hosts. We would not hesitate to stay...
Read moreI'm a little bummed I don't have a glowing review to report similar to the others; honestly, it sounds like I stayed at a completely different place. I stayed from 10/20 - 10/25 and though overall it was manageable, I would not stay there again.||The place was certainly clean and the woman who cleaned was very nice, as was Bruno who was the airport pickup person. Otherwise, there was either miscommunication or complete lack of communication. I could not get in touch with anyone the entire time I was there, despite calling the phone number on their email signature (the person responded he doesn't even work there anymore) and sending two emails to the main email address. They completely ignored me until I checked out and received an automated "thank you" email.||I was not made aware of any breakfast situation, the room was somewhat below-ground and damp and I could not have extended my arms in the cubicle bathroom. For the price, I think I could have stayed at better accommodations.||I booked my stay back in August but days before travel I was told that they had not charged my card and that I needed to wire the money in order for them to confirm. This was odd to me, but I did what was expected, telling them that I would also like to request transportation to and from the airport. This was not communicated to me that it was not included in the lump sum to be tired so after getting to the airport (my ride was about 45 min late so I was already anxious) we were trying to figure out payment.||I think there are communication issues between the owners and staff and to not be able to reach anyone was frustrating. Again, it was fine, but I would...
