PILOT Design Hostel & Bar — Hotel in Porto

The Hostel was really good, clean and the personal (specially Michel and Carolina) were very very nice. We had cool pub crawls and the free walking tour is awesome. I liked the atmosphere in the hostel and that we had a cool group of people from all around the world :) Now the bad side and the reason for two stars and not 5 out of 5. We booked a shuttle to the airport. The driver came 30 minutes to early and nobody came to our room and said that we have to leave. It was 4 o’clock in the morning and I was awake. The guy at the reception just sent him away. I don’t know why. We checked out 10 minutes before we should have been picked up and the guy at the reception just said to us that he sent away the driver. Then he tried to call a taxi but no taxi was available. Last solution for the guy at the reception was to say that we should go to the metro. So we ran to the metro station and they said to us that the first metro drives at 6am what was to late for us. Last change was to run to the bus station and get the bus. But it was already to late to get the flight. I don’t know why you always want our mobile phone number at every reservation/ booking/ .... we missed our plane because the personal was not able to call us or to find us (my mate was the hole time in the room). We had to pay a lot of money to get a new Flight home. In my opinion it’s a sheer impossibility to sent the booked shuttle driver away when you know the taxi drivers are in a strike and it’s hard to get to the airport at that time! For the future, inform your employees about the timetable for the metro or how they can find them or that they can call us (because there is a reason that I give you my number...

Well located but not well maintained.

The location is great. It seems pretty central to everything touristy.

However, the maintenance is extremely lacking. For instance, in the bathroom located next to the 8 person dorm we stayed in, the hand dryer did not work. There was 3 showers and 2 toilets. One of the toilets was out of order, and instead of fixing it, they just kept the stall door locked. Which meant there was only 1 toilet to share amongst all of the people on that floor. The showers did not have hot or even warm water. Since we vacationed in early April, and the weather was cold, it made showering a little icy.

It is nice that there is a kitchen. However, it is very tiny. Only 2 people max can be using it at a time. There is a large stove with 5 gas burners, however only 2 of the burners (the 2 smallest ones) were functioning. The refrigerator was extremely full, who knows how long it had been since it had been cleaned out.

The WiFi signal is extremely weak and did not even reach the second floor dorms.

Well paid around $24 per person which isn’t a terrible price given that Porto is a little pricy. So the price is decent. But the hostel itself isn’t great. I would say it should have about 3.7 stars on Google, doesn’t deserve the 4.5. There also isn’t much to do in the hostel as far as hang out areas, besides the small lounge area near the bar, and the outdoor area (which closes at 10pm and isn’t very suitable during cold weather months.) also, the seats in the outdoor area have no cushions and are extremely...

I have mixed feelings about this hostel. It wasn’t very clean, and it was very loud at night. What bothered me most was that my bed was double-booked.

When I returned around 4 AM on the last night of my stay, there was a strange man sleeping in my bed. At reception, I was told that the bed had now been assigned to him — and that I had been moved to another bed without being informed.

When I asked which bed I was supposed to take, they gave me one that was also already occupied. It took forever to finally find a free bed.

The worst part was having to quietly collect all my belongings in the middle of the night, which had been removed from my bed and scattered across the room — all while trying not to wake anyone up. I was tired, slightly drunk, and extremely frustrated. In the end, I barely got an hour of sleep.

When I complained the next morning, no one offered a solution or compensation. No apology, no refund — even though the mistake was clearly on the hostel’s side and there was no reason I should have had to change beds in the first place.

The second star is only because I had an amazing time at the pub crawl with Lucio and Maria — without them, this would have been a one-star review.

Also: There was mold on the ceiling of my room, some showers only had cold water, the bathrooms would flood after a few minutes, and the toilets were dirty and smelled bad. The staff were friendly, but unfortunately not...
