Unfortunately, it was disappointing experience for the first time here. They were about to close in 30 minutes, and we agreed on it by chosing our food and drink as soon as possible.
Tasteless food I ordered nasi goreng. And honestly, it was the worst nasi goreng that I have ever eaten. I believe they put too much rice while cooking the white rice. I could not understand why they put a plate full of espinafre down part of the nasi goreng. I could not finish my food because of the tasteless food.
My partner order a bowl of chicken and yes, it was the same. The chicken was a kind of boiled chicken with no flavour. He tried to finish his food because of his respect on food.
We ordered lemonade and it was horrible. It was super sour like no water or sugar at all. Avoid to order lemonade.
Staff The staff who picked up the payment ahould be so happy with her job because of no smile at all. I understand it was almost the closing time, but can you please just put a nice face?
After spending more than 20 euros, I believe we can get better food with better food quality somewhere else.
This Nicolau Porto is located in Rua Cedofeita and always full of people. They have indoor and outdoor seating available for the clients.
Mandatory tips on the invoice? When we were about to pay, the lady included tips on our bill without informing us at the beginning. Like? Excuse me? Since when it is mandatory to charge tips to the customer in Portugal? We complained and asked her politely to remove the tips from our bill. For the food experience that we got, we were not happy to give tips. We will give tips in Portugal if the service and food exceed our expectations as our...
Read moreSince I moved to Porto, I’ve been exploring new places around the city — both to enjoy the views and to try different foods. Today, my boyfriend and I went to Café Nicolau, which we’d seen a lot on TikTok and Instagram, so our expectations were pretty high.
The place is really beautiful, very touristy, with people from all over the world… but the service was pretty disappointing. It honestly felt like we were bothering the staff, like we were asking for a favor instead of just placing an order. There was definitely a lack of friendliness.
The food took a while, which I get — it was a Sunday and the place was full. But the filtered coffee… wow, it took so long we joked they were harvesting the beans in Brazil before roasting and grinding them. When we asked about it, the server just said it’s made fresh. Well, of course it is — it’s a filtered coffee!
The food itself was good. The pancakes were delicious — fluffy, light, and not too heavy. But the orange juice in the mimosa didn’t taste fresh, which was a shame because it could’ve made a big difference.
Overall, I think it’s worth visiting, especially if you’re into cute, photogenic spots. But honestly, the lack of warmth in the service kind of ruined the vibe. If they improved that, I’d be much more...
Read moreI never leave reviews, but I just had too. After reading many positive reviews regarding this place, my sister and I thought we would visit for breakfast. The coffee was amazing (I hadn’t had a good coffee yet in my 4 weeks of travelling through Europe/UK so I was amazed!). Unfortunately we waited a very long time for our food, and my eggs Benedict arrived cold. It was like they put it in the fridge until they were ready to bring it out to us. My sister had scrambled eggs on toast with bacon which was nicely heated however my eggs and bacon were cold. Such a bummer considering how long we waited. Didn’t want to tell the staff Incase I had to wait another hour or so for it to be replaced. May seem like a small thing but when you’re hungry and waiting, you can’t help but be disappointed. They are a busy place and had a line waiting so slightly understandable, but don’t cook the food if it isn’t ready to be served. Staff was lovely though and was reasonably priced....
