Major Problem with the Room wrecked my Trip to SIntra. The owners were apologetic and nice but….. 1.0 star is correct. There was a big problem with my stay. The staff was apologetic and nice so I decided to wait two days before writing this review - or the review would have been much worse. The room itself was large and nice, and, the wifi was strong. It is more of an AirBNB type place, with no staff at the facility if you have an issue (and I did). Parking is on the street if you can find something - and since i travel via motorcycle this was easy too. Coffee is provided in a kitchen at the end of the hall. Disliked · You will hear everybody else staying at the guest house. Someone closing a door will wake you up. Neighbors were not particularly loud but I heard them laughing and chatting until midnight. I had to sleep with ear plugs. The room was advertised as an “Ocean View” and directly in the center of town. I attached photo of the view from the room as well as a google maps photo. It was not far from the center of the city but it is not in any way in the historic district. These were the MINOR issues. They also ask you to leave a 2 Euro city tax on the table. I only had a 10 Euro note and had to find a store to make change to leave the money. It was a hot day and I turned on the air conditioning. Every minute or so the AC made a loud buzzer noise, loud enough you could never sleep through it. i called (international, I don’t have a Portuguese telephone) to complain and the owner said he would call a technician and check. There is no table nor any place to rest a suitcase, so my suitcase was on the floor. I went in to take a shower. When I came out, the floor of the room was flooded with water. My suitcase had been on the floor. It was day 5 of a two week vacation and now I had no dry clothes. I called again and was offered a second room. I had unpacked and mopped up near my suitcase so it took a while. Combined with the longer than expected travel time to the historic center everything was closed and I saw absolutely nothing of the city of Sintra. Check out time was 11:00 am and it was already 7:00 pm at night. Now I need to find a day to spend in a laundry and that costs another day. So there goes my vacation. As a resolution I was told I could have a late check out. Sorry - late check out does not equal two days of my Portugal trip. I did not accept the offer and moved to...
Read moreThe best thing about this first house is that it is 3 minutes from the station - really great location. Bizarrely, the entire place smelled of mould, to the point where, when we got home, everything inside our luggage also smelled really strongly of mould. You could not see any mould, however.
The guest house was clean and modern, with a comfortable bed. However, it is sorely lacking table/counter space on which to store items. We had to bring in the chairs from the "lounge area" which is literally 2 chairs and a table. Much more could be made of that area by putting in a sofa, perhaps.
Bizarrely, we were given a little box with teabags in it, although there was no kettle and no cups. This was a little baffling.
The shower/bathroom was nice,...
Read moreLocation. From the train station, take the stairs opposite, turn to the right and your're there. Just around 5 minutes to the center of town.
Convenience. You get a message from the hosts with codes to get in. The place has a common kitchen on the first floor (2nd floor for Americans) with a fridge, water heater, toaster and coffee maker. It gives access to a common terrace . Tania provides coffee pods, tea, biscuits and cookies. There's a cafe nextdoor if you want to take it easy. Wifi worked well.
Communication and friendliness. Tania was very quick to answer questions through WhatsApp. I met her and she's friendly and very service-oriented.
I would recommend and book again should I travel back to...
