The Holiday Home we booked was a very large, comfortable space over two floors. The main pool & garden were beautiful & the 2nd smaller pool was also really nice. Both pools were very clean. The sunbeds were very comfortable though there could have been more parasols to provide shade around the pool.||Our stay didn't get off to a good start sadly. We were shown to our accommodation & quickly realised that none of the windows had any blinds or curtains. There was no privacy & no way to stop the sun from lighting up the bedroom from dawn. In addition, the "fully functioning kitchen" had a few issues. There were no kitchen utensils that we could use to prepare any food, no dishwasher tablets or washing up liquid to clean up afterwards. We then found that the oven wouldn't heat up. The following morning we asked to see the manager & we had the most bizarre conversation ever. On the window blinds issue, he said that he came from Sweden where nobody puts blinds on windows!! On the "fully functioning kitchen" he said it was intentional that there were no kitchen tools as "regulations" didn't allow a kitchen to be used in case of fire.....?! He never once apologised or offered to fix these issues which we found astonishing. We asked to see the owner but we were told he was in Germany & not contactable. The staff were very helpful however, & did their best to rectify things for us....by mid-morning we had a working kitchen. They found 3 blinds in a cupboard which one of the staff fitted that day in the bedroom…unfortunately they never found the other blinds so our privacy downstairs was poor throughout our 7 day stay. In addition to all this, we found that the breakfast (no menu, just tell us what you want & we’ll deliver it) was often poor…e.g. Full English please…sorry, no bacon or sausages.... eggs, soft, sunny side up delivered with crispy, burnt whites & flattened, hard yoke. We’re not certain but we think that the manager was also the chef as he spent all breakfast time in the kitchen.||Our stay at Franschhoek Manor was spoiled by poor attention to detail & a very poor manager/chef - he needs to go. It’s a shame as the property has much going for it but is in urgent need of experienced,...
Read moreWe received a very enthusiastic recommendation from a colleague and are very glad that we took it to heart. It was not a particularly busy time and in a very short time so we were able to spend time with Norbert, head of the Manor and Michael who is responsible for the the smooth running of the day to day and, most importantly - for breakfast. The breakfasts were amazing. Elaborate and varied. Michael checked the evening before enquiring about what we wanted and when we wanted it and we were treated to a feast that was perfectly prepared and elaborately presented. Arriving late on our first evening the Manor had reserved a table for dinner on the main street in Franschhoek. When Ubers seemed to be scarce, Michael grabbed his keys and drove us to the restaurant. The restaurant was a great choice - we went back a second time. Norbert recommended two other restaurants and then organized reservations for when we were unable to make them ourselves. (Restaurants were "Full" but they found room for Norbert's guests.) The facility has an extensive, beautifully kept garden surrounding a very pleasant pool area. There are various outdoor dining tables and lounges. It is a 20 minute walk to the centre of Franschhoek which helped us walk off the effects of the breakfasts. The Manor itself is decorated with an interesting collection African and European art, antique maps and an eclectic collection of furniture that works in each of the many public rooms. Our room was more than we bargained for and could easily have stayed two more weeks had we not made...
Read moreThis looks a lovely guesthouse and we were looking forward to our stay of 4 nights in February but sadly we had to cancel. Same experience as William - I always make contact weeks prior to our arrival to make everything is as it should be if we've booked (and paid) via Booking.com but frustratingly nobody answers the phone and nobody replies to emails its as if they are not open for business. I managed to get through eventually after days of trying via facebook messenger and got an unsatisfactory brief reply which didn't answer my questions or indeed give me any confidence of a happy stay. Spoke several times to Booking.com who had the same experience in trying to get through to them, thankfully eventually the manager/owner agreed we were able to cancel. It seems they are not bothered or interested in welcoming guests. I understand its under new ownership and is also new to...
