Really enjoyed our dinner experience at allora.
Centrally located on the main road, The ambience inside was warm and cosy and from our table could see views of the mountains as the sun sets.
All the meals ordered were vegetarian and really delicious:
The zucchini fries starter was super crispy and tasty and bonus great value for money.
Our oven fired margherita pizza was well prepared with a crispy base (not too thin/ thick) and good sauce to cheese ratio. We loved adding on the mushrooms to add a bit more flavor and would recommend.
The oven fired melenzane was beautifully rich and creamy, with spinach and ricotta folded into aubergine rolls and topped off tomato based sauce and loads of cheese. Highly recommend trying this dish. Portion was a bit small for the price, so make sure to order the normal sized one - really is quite good.
Tiramisu ended off our dinner, deliciously light and fluffy, would have however liked to have a bit more cake to balance out the cream.
Service can be a bit slow sometimes - but the food was good so we didn’t mind too much.
Tip: make sure to make a reservation as places in Franshoek get busy especially on weekends and especially vegetarian friendly places
Overall verdict: must visit if...
Read moreCame here on a recommendation by a local, whom we later found out to be a self confessed non foody .
I'm hoping it wasn't a stitch up as she seemed to be a really nice lady.
Was only staying in Franshoek for one night and felt assured of some top quality fare in this upmarket, artisnal corner of the country.
We've eaten like kings on this trip, in some very unexpected places, and the quality and value has been out of this world. What a mistake. My own fault for not researching myself...... I know! Some people obviously like this place, as per the reviews , which on the whole I can't get my head around.
The food is edible.
But it's a plastic Italian, very chainy, without being a part of one. Not nearly as plastic though as the type of material they are passing off as parmesan. The black bin liner type bag of perfectly round ready made pizza bases wouldn't make an Italian proud either.
Looking back over the trip this place is by far the most expensive that we have eaten in, in terms of value for money regarding quality and freshness of ingredients.
Just feel like I've missed out on what I hoped to be a dinner to remember , in a wonderful part...
Read moreBeautiful South African Italian restaurant in the heart of Franschhoek. Everything is elegant, from the decor to the beautiful presentation of the food. The halloumi starter was pleasant though could perhaps have been a bit spicier. The kudu special for main was excellent: perfectly cooked in a cheese and onion sauce and accompanied by chips and vegetables. Sorbet for dessert was tasty and generous. The gin menu is new sine my last visit and the wine list, even by the carafe, is extensive and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is informal; the service is generally very good; and the manager keeps an attentive eye on everything. One of my favourite restaurants that never...
