Such a shame I have to leave a review like this. However, we got an intruder during the stay. Also all of the cash in the room has gone (250 EUR). My 2nd time to visit Barcelona, know exactly how to protect myself in the street living in Europe. However maybe my problem was trusting too much insiders in the hotel. 29th July first night of the stay, around 8pm we went outside to have a dinner bringing one card key with us and leaving the other one card key put inside the room. Asking the receptionist until when the hotel bar is opened... and 1 hour later we came back.
The room was in complete dark, we noticed that the card key put was gone. Just gone. I left my bag inside the hotel since I anyway would be back in couple of hours. Me and my friend's luggage are opened. Being very anxious, I opened my bag. Everything was there except the cash inside the wallet. 250 EUR was just gone.
Immediately going downstairs, we said to the receptionist that our card key is stolen and also my cash was stolen. The receptionist seems to not understand fully what we said(at least it seemed like that) and reacted like "you lost your card key? No problem, here is another one for you" and gave us the other card key right away. (We shouldn't have got that one.) But please tell me, you didn't even ask what is going on. Or which card key to suspend to use. You never asked us. (We had 2 keys so basically you should suspend the other key stolen). If you really think there is someone outside using our card key and intrudes the room, then you should immediately block the usage.
We strongly argued that it's safety issue and we wanted you to investigate on this right now also asked to change the room at least. Then you said you would do the investigation but it took some time so you will report to everyone related to this. You also gave us another room. That night was frightened but at least I hoped you somehow figure out what's going on. Somehow I felt a bit of relief that this was not happening during 10 years of your service and if I cannot find the thief then you will refund or somewhat compensate. I was a fool.. Also the other crew at the hotel said I can go to the police but they will not take care since the threshold of the importance with robbery things starts from 400 EUR. Haha. Not sure if it's the proper reaction.
Next day you said your manager is not available still, so we should wait until tomorrow. Yes we did.
What was the result? They came up with the entrance record of our room. In order to prove that there was no strange entrance record, staff showed us the record. Picture is also attached to this review. We clearly saw that somebody entered our room at 8:19. We were outside at then. We said this is the record of the thief so you should investigate on this, then the manager of hotel said she will work on it and discuss further on our last day of the stay (We spent 3 nights there.) She didn't show up. Via call, she said the security company said this is "normal" entrance record that entered with our card key. So they cannot compensate whatsoever and they changed our room and offer breakfast at the last day so they did their best. We didn't take any offer at the last day, by the way.
Seriously, I understand the insurance coverage, but if the entrance is done with 'our' card key then isn't it also a big problem? Manager asked, or doubted me if I lost the key outside and the thief was coming from outside, but if you see the card key there is no room number indicator at all. Then the manager said it's correct and she is sorry. Doesn't it ring a bell to you?
With great disappointment and every nerve breaking experience with this hotel... I had to leave the hotel with empty wallet. I should thank that at least my passport and laptop was there.
I already reported this to police but I don't expect any solution from them to be honest. Hotel would argue that stealing is not proven fact. However from the record it is quite clear that trespass was there. Reconsider if you want safe feeling at...
Read moreWhat an incredible and beautiful hotel, absolutely well done, gorgeous the moment you walk in with a grand staircase and it has this boutique type feel to it but it's actually not small at all. The rooms are incredibly well done with beautiful tapestry, wallpapering and interior decorating that you see in some of the most expensive hotels in the world. They did an incredible job of decorating this hotel and it shows. My favorite spots are on the first floor when you walk up the stairs to the dining area and the 24/7 library and terrace. Absolutely stunning library where you can get some quiet time in or work done if need be. And the dining area is very unique and beautifully ordained. The terrace itself is big with plenty of unique sitting options as well as eating options as well as shade from the Sun as well as lounging as well as the list goes on.. I have to say I really like the bathroom in my room as the shower was extremely good with pressure and also came with the tub so you have the best of both worlds. The air conditioning was on point and I cannot say enough about how great this place is. Oh, and did I mention that it is incredibly well positioned in Barcelona. Very close to great shopping and All the hot spots to visit. So what are the negatives? Well, it doesn't have a fitness center which I believe is a must-have for any hotel these days. The fact that you don't even give an option to support someone at another property or even a gym also is a negative. However, I would have to say the biggest issue and the reason why I put service at number two is the Wi-Fi. How can you not have good Wi-Fi throughout a beautiful hotel like this? Frustrating to the point of I almost wanted to move hotels. That's how bad it was. Now for some that might not be an issue but for those foreign travelers who need Wi-Fi for either work and conference calls or even just to access data without getting huge roaming charges you need Wi-Fi. Their Wi-Fi was really bad in every area of the hotel from the rooms to the dining room to the terrace. Even the beautiful library where you're supposed to be working had bad Wi-Fi. Again, for these premier locations to be rated four and five they need to have it all. And this one unfortunately was missing two key elements in my opinion which were a fitness center and even decent Wi-Fi. Other than that, this place is amazing, so if you can live without those two options by all means sign up. And even if you can get away without having to complain too much about those two options then absolutely stay here. A beautiful place can't say...
Read moreI searched for weeks for the right hotel in the right location and we were absolutely delighted with the Hotel Granvia. Centrally located, it was the perfect place for our first trip (my husband and myself) to Barcelona as classic tourist. We walked to most attractions, but also found the Metro easy to use, as well as immaculate- please note that the ticket screens do offer translations- look at the bottom of the screen for the British flag for English- that took a us a while to figure out! The cabs are also excllent and very affordable.||The hotel is beautiful and the staff is stellar. Our room overlooked the Gran Via de les Corts with a lovely large double door window, yet the room was extremely quiet as the doors are fully insulated (sound proofed). The room was large with a king bed and plenty of walking space. Our bathroom was gorgeous with a huge tub/shower. We had room 102 which is actually a second-floor room, but definitely one of the more superior rooms in the hotel. We enjoyed a superb breakfast buffet each morning, so I encourage anyone staying to include it with their booking. We also enjoyed the early evening sangria and small bites the hotel offers each evening, around 7 PM. Many nights we carried our drinks out the gorgeous outdoor lounge and relaxed. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and the hotel surprised us with a lovely bottle of champagne delivered to our room! I still don't understand why this hotel is only rated 3 stars?!||While the hotel does not have a bar, we didn't really miss it as often we picked up a bottle of wine next door and had an early evening drink before venturing out for dinner (we quickly learned that everyone in Spain eats late!) ||Our stay at the Hotel Granvia was so memorable, from the excellent, immaculate accommodations to our favorite, knowledgeable evening front desk gal, Lady.|We highly recommend the hotel, our five nights there were worth very cent! No wonder Rick Steves highly recommends...
