DON'T GO! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
I was at this bar with some friends trying to have some wings and some beers in a bar setting. It is a big bar with that pub feel, if you are looking for that in Barcelona. HOWEVER, the staff is rude, the music is so loud you can barely hear yourself think AND the service in general is just plain terrible.
When asking the waitress to please turn down the music because it's so loud that we have to scream at each other to talk, the response was "well, my boss say's it has to be this loud or he's not happy." Thats unfortunate, because being in the service industry, your number one concern should be the customer. We had to change seats to get away from the noisy part of the bar, which didn't help much to be honest. When we switched seats, the staff is so disorganised, that they didn't know where to deliver our food and when we SCREAMED at them to get their attention we just got ignored. Maybe, not their fault on this one, the music was ridiculously loud, so they probably couldn't hear us. In addition to all of this, because we switched seats we were asked to pay our meal before the chicken wings even got cold and with wing sauce all over our hands. The staff wasn't happy about that either as we got some strange looks when we asked if it was possible that we pay in a little bit as we were right in the middle of eating. This is just rude and honestly, nobody wants to be asked to pay in the middle of their meal.
So bottom line, if you feel like having a headache at the end of your experience and being ignored with rude staff this is your place to be! Otherwise STAY AWAY! For the management at George Payne, do better, listen to your customers and train your staff better or just hire people that will be nicer and actually happy to be...
Read morePaying an entrance fee just to get into a pub — that’s a first. So what are you paying for exactly? A room with no seats, while three large lounge booths on the ground floor were roped off.
Firstly, here's the definition of 'Tip' - 'A tip or gratuity is a small, voluntary payment given to an employee, often as a reward for services like those in a restaurant, intended to be kept or shared among staff.' Seeing that you enforce mandatory payment at the entrance, you might reconsider writing 'Entry fee' instead of ‘Thank you for your tip’.
I see in the reviews sooo many people complaining about the same thing, and the owner usually giving some arrogant childish reply along the lines of “sorry your poor and can't afford €2" - that's not the point, listen to the complaints for once and understand that literally no other pubs in the world do this.
Another go-to from the owner is “the tips go to our amazing staff” - If the idea is to support staff, why not just pay your staff properly instead of shifting this burden onto customers? I can only assume you don’t pay them enough so need to make up for it with this stupid 'tipping' system. It’s either that or it’s just the owner trying to cash-in additional revenue for themselves. Leave a tip jar at the bar and pay your employees what they deserve like how 99% of businesses operate in Europe. This is not America.
They also refuse to give receipts which is illegal btw and it’s ‘cash-only’ which usually means they want to avoid any income being on record and well… we all know why. This whole things is very odd. A simple compromise would be to charge €5 at the door and give a drink ticket and receipt in return.
Better pubs I recommend: Irish Pub Temple Bar and...
Read moreTerrible Experience - Unprofessional Staff Behavior
Visited this venue on Sunday with my family on the second day of a family wedding. Unfortunately, our experience was marred right from the entrance by a staff member named Cian, whose attitude was shockingly rude and unprofessional. He immediately singled out one of my cousins, insisting he drink a pint of water to “sober up” — despite the fact that he was completely sober. He then proceeded to mutter under his breath that we “weren’t wanted in the bar anyway,” and refused entry to the rest of our group, which included my parents in their 60s. His manner was disrespectful and completely unnecessary, especially given the context — we were part of a wedding celebration, and the bar was half-empty at the time.
Another staff member at the door was clearly embarrassed by his conduct and kindly allowed us in without charge, which we appreciated. Otherwise, we would have left, if not for the rest of our family and friends already inside.
Cian was not seen again for the rest of the evening, which speaks volumes. Unfortunately, the atmosphere inside wasn’t much better. The bar was filled with older men who made our younger female relatives feel very uncomfortable with persistent staring, an issue the staff seemed to overlook entirely.
If the goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment, perhaps more attention should be paid to who is allowed in, rather than aggressively turning away respectful, paying guests. Truly disappointing behaviour from a member of staff during what should have been a joyful...
