Do not recommend, will not return. Full review on Trip adviser (I had to shorten this to accommodate Google reviews character limit): Net-net: My husband and I were in Spain for one night, making our way to Portugal for a wedding. We stayed at Cotton House Hotel; the hotel is beautiful, and the staff was very kind upon arrival. The only meal we shared in Barcelona was a burger from the Cotton House Hotel restaurant. We both agreed it tasted “off” though the rest of the meal was great. We BOTH became violently ill with food poisoning that same night vomiting every 10-15 minutes for several hours. The burger was the only common denominator. Because of this illness, we needed to move our next-day flight to Portugal to the following day and book another night in the hotel as we could not even get out of bed. This cost us around $1000 USD total. I called the front desk to let them know that we needed another night in the same room, as we were too ill to move rooms. They kindly accommodated and asked that I come downstairs to process the additional charge “when I was feeling up to it” which was not until around 4PM the next day - when I was finally no longer vomiting. Upon going down to the lobby, the hotel staff noticed I was not feeling well and offered to have me sit down while they processed the charge. I let the front desk know of our food poisoning and its suspected source and received an apology. The staff even mentioned that they could send a Dr to the room if needed. We considered it, but we were no longer actively vomiting, and we were in a foreign country that we had never been to before, so we decided to sleep it off. We left the next day for Portugal and upon checking out, the front desk staff asked about our stay. I mentioned that we loved the hotel but reiterated the fact that we got food poisoning and believed it to be from the hotel restaurant, as we figured that hotel staff and management would want to know out of principle. When we got home from Europe, my husband crafted a kind, respectful email (with attached receipts and documentation) to send to Cotton House Management, once again mentioning the illness and requesting a refund for the one additional night. We were shocked to receive a response from the hotel manager, Natalia, that not only denied our request, but attempted to invalidate our experience by way of telling lies. Natalia started her email response stating that she was “shocked” to learn of our illness as she personally spoke to EVERYONE on staff that day and “no illness or discomfort was reported” during our stay at Cotton House Hotel. Untrue. Furthermore, Natalia berated us for bringing it to her attention “more than ten days after [our] departure” which she said she found “astonishing” (her words). Natalia then proceeds to tell us that the hotel will not take responsibility as they follow structured food safety guidelines (I like to think all hotels do,) and that no other illness was reported from the same day (I am glad, but this is irrelevant to our experience). We were insulted by her dismissiveness. I respond to Natalia via email. A few days later, Natalia responds again stating that her staff actually WAS in fact aware of our illness but that food poisoning was never mentioned (untrue). So now Natalia is going back on her initial claim that no one was made aware, but is holding tight to the story that food poisoning was never claimed. I let Natalia know that I was not going to argue about our very real experience or its documentation. Natalia also made the claim that we “denied a doctor” as if that negates the seriousness of our illness? It felt like a slap in the face but also, again, disproves her initial statement that no one was made aware. We are now experiencing radio silence from Natalia and Cotton House Hotel and are escalating through Marriott Bonvoy who will hopefully be helpful as we (frequent travelers) have NEVER asked for a refund from a hotel before. Nor have we ever been...
Read moreMy sisters had a traumatic experience seeing both fecal matter and blood on their toilet and other poor sanitary states around the room. They wouldn’t cancel and comp the night afterwards and even before we entered the rooms, which made the situation even more frustrating. Very poor service. Staff is very unknowable and clearly doesn’t communicate with managers. Could’ve avoiding the whole situation otherwise.
I had to stay in a separate room due to hotel policy on occupancy, which was unfortunate but I understood. I agreed to one night, but they never printed any documents for me to sign other than the receipt nor sent me confirmation of the room as I paid at the desk. I am a Marriott Bonvoy gold member as well but that was not taken into consideration… I was given no benefits or offered or explained anything.
I later had them print the reservation confirmation FOR ONE NIGHT after all the incident in my sisters’ first room, since I was getting a bad feeling about the hotel. They proved me right the next morning at regular checkout time, when they told me my booking was actually FOR TWO DAYS. So from that evening when we checked in to the morning, the hotel committed fraud and changed the printed confirmation of 1 night stay to 2 nights. I was furious. The manager came out and instead of listening to the associate who explained the situation to her or me, tried explaining the ins and outs of issues in my sister’s stay. I reiterated that has nothing to do with me, and asked why they added an additional night on my stay as I was checking out ahead of time and had printed proof that I was only staying for one night. The manager then “fixed” the situation - which was already extremely fraudulent on their behalf, but brought up the resolution later during my sister’s conversation to cancel their final night - which the hotel wouldn’t let them do the previous night. They said we had to wait until the morning since the manager was out. The manger later told them that they couldn’t cancel, but instead tried to upgrade the room and brought in my resolution as part of their monetary resolution/ “refund”, by saying that she didn’t have to comp my last night… even though that was my original agreement and a separate reservation and card on file than my sister’s room. Very tricky hotel. Very shady. I will NEVER come back. DO NOT STAY HERE. STAY ANYWHERE ELSE. THEY ARE DIRTY, OVERPRICED, AND UNPROFESSIONAL! They need to be removed from Amex Travel Fine Resorts & Hotels program and also Marriott needs to crack down harder on their standards of this hotel. Worst Marriott hotel we stayed at in the country and ever actually. Very...
