Mr. Pickwick Pub Basel — Restaurant in Basel

Last week I attended Basel from London to Meet with My Spanish friends and cheer Getafe. We made Mr Pickwicks our basecamp. We were greeted Thursday by probably the Prettiest and Best Barmaid in Basel in Gaby. She was extremely friendly and very helpful on local info. We returned every night until we left on the Saturday. We were greeted like ‘Regulars’ every time as well as Gaby we met Ciaran a True Irish Gent & Tina (not her name but name badge) Who were all So friendly and a credit to the bar. This review would Not be complete without mentioning ‘The Karaoke King David’ It is worth a visit to the bar alone just to listen to his one liners, they cracked me up Everytime. His people skills are amazing, he also hosts a Very Good Karaoke Night on Fridays. He had the whole bar Full and bouncing. I wish bar was my local rather than a once in a lifetime visit. TOURIST WARNING: Although I like Hop House on tap, the waitress decided on her own to keep our change as her tip... when we ordered from the bar. I am not opposed to tipping and indeed I always do tip but it left a bad taste in our mouth that she just didn't give us back the correct change. We live in France and have lived in the UK and we know that it's not customary to tip at a British bar... when ordering at the bar. It took us a while to process what happened and ended up asking for our change but we will definitely not return as we felt it was pretty cheeky for the waitress to keep almost 2CHF for a tip on 2 beers. It's not that 2CHF is a ridiculous amount for a tip but it's the fact that she just decided to keep it instead of giving us the opportunity to tip her if...

Honest opinion: It's quite an amount of money for the food, which might scare some people. BUT try the food! It's truly amazing! It seems like simple food and it generally is, but it tastes outstanding! Like the chips, the rösti fries AND especially the fish are exceptional yummy! The fish is ridiculously good!
