So far we are enjoying our stay here. We don't have one of the best rooms (facing the lakes) so the view is a bit indifferent but the hotel service and staff are excellent. There is no Sauna facility but you can order a Spa experience should you feel inclined. The food (we opted for half board) has been exceptional and I fear for my already bulging waistline! The staff are friendly and helpful and all seem to be able to speak multiple languages. The hotel is on a hill but has its own lift to the road and lakeside. The bus stop is right outside the lift and town is easy to reach three stops away on a 24, 6 or 8 number bus using the free tickets provided by the hotel. Or town is a 15_20 minute walk. The room is very clean and spacious and has tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, Bose music system, smart TV, safe and fridge. They also provide a Samsung tablet on the writing desk so you can access mail, weather info etc The electric sockets are different here but the desk staff happily provided me with adaptors so I could charge my mobiles etc All the usual soaps, shampoo, nail file, shoe horn etc are provided. The room lacks air conditioning and I have found it a little stuffy at night but in fairness I had eaten too much for dinner last night and that may also have affected my sleep! The bathroom is spotless and has a bath with over head shower, sink with magnifying make up mirror and, a little oddly, a window into the room. Did have fun making faces at my wife mid shower so not all bad!The shower was powerful enough to defoliate an alligator- very refreshing! Regarding sleep, they have an unusual feature whereby you can choose your pillow from a menu. I left a request for a firmer more supportive pillow and it was in my room when I returned from an outing to mount Titlis today. Looking forward to testing that out tonight! We booked through Inghams so the organisation of the transfers and rep was fairless. The booking included a free boat trip and daily packed lunches are included- the staff were happy to modify the contents of the packed lunch to suit the individual too. Staff, food and facilities can make or break a holiday. If the rest of the week turns out as well as this one has started I will be completely satisfied and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and holiday...
Read moreI stayed at HM four nights in mid-October, 2015 - two nights in a 2nd-floor room with a view of the lake, and two nights in a 2nd-floor room facing 180 degrees opposite, i.e. a "Hillside" room. I experienced both positive and negative aspects of this hotel. For clarity I've listed them below. My overall rating is 3 stars but I'm trying to communicate my opinions via text rather than star ratings. I should also mention that most of the minuses would be minimized for guests staying in higher-priced rooms at this hotel.
pluses:
generally, staff were very service-oriented rooms are well-furnished and functional hotel's location is excellent hotel's restaurant is excellent with respect to management, ambience, and food hotel is elegant, and its offerings are comprehensive
minuses:
during stay in lake-view room while I was reading at night in bed, the toilet started gurgling so I got up to see what was happening; the water level rose to just below overflowing, and there was a 2"-3" of soap suds on the surface. A minor odor of hydrogen sulfide emitted. Hillside room was very small. My room's location was nearly directly above the hotel entrance and directly above the parking lot, and it was an end unit bordering the internal stairway. I generally sleep with the window-door partially open due to the warmth of the bed's comforter. However eventually I had to close it on my 1st night in this room, as it was impossible to get to sleep with it open; at ~2 a..m. I closed it. This was due to constant noise from drivers and taxis, and very loud guests entering and leaving the hotel. As well as noise from a band in the bar, and hotel guests talking loudly as they walked from the stairway to their rooms (past mine). I received bites from "bed bugs" in the Hillside room. The red marks in the morning confirmed what I'd felt. I understand that this type of thing happens from time to time, it certainly has in the States, but it isn't very pleasant. I asked for a wakeup call on my final day, but I didn't receive one ventilation was poor in both rooms; one had no ventilation fan, the other had one in the...
Read moreWe decided to come to Luzern as it is very easy to get to with direct trains from Zurich airport, it's quite a large city and is well connected. We then needed to find a hotel and decided on this one as it gets so well rated. Even though we booked several months in advance the only room we could get for a 14 night stay was a penthouse suite with a jacuzzi on the balcony. The room was modern with a fabulous view of the lake and mountains which is the main reason we wanted to stay here as this hotel probably guarantees the best views in town. We had a king-size double bed, a sofa, a desk, a toilet and shower room downstairs and a mezzanine floor with another shower and a roll top type bath. There was a minibar with a plentiful supply of water, soft drinks and snacks which are included in the room rate. There was also a coffee machine and tea bags. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet which is an advantage of staying in this hotel which is a few minutes walk from the old town along the lake. We are glad we didn't stay in the middle of town as I think it would be rather noisy. We made good use of the jacuzzi and the balcony. We decided not to pay for breakfast as we don't eat much so most days we went to one of the numerous Bachmann bakeries in town. We did make use of the Beach Bar for food and drinks and also ate twice in the absolutely super restaurant where the food and views are very special. Don't be put off by the out of town location. There are 3 buses into town which is 3 minutes away and 5 minutes to the station or you can walk in along the lake which takes 10 minutes to the old town. There are many lovely cafes and restaurants within walking distance and it's very easy to access the lake and trains. The staff were amazing and really looked after us. Although the hotel doesn't have a pool I can thoroughly recommend using the Seebad across the road where you can sunbathe, swim in the lake as well as eat and drink. Entrance was included in our room rate as was a travel pass to use on the transport network locally. As you can tell we had a fabulous stay and hope...
