Taichung Good Ground Hotel — Hotel in Taichung

This hotel is quite close to the Taichung (Taizhong,台中) rail station in the city. Since Taichung is really spread out, however, this hotel is quite far from FengChia night market (the big one) and the High Speed Rail station.||||The hotel is also quite close (and in fact next door) to several establishments of gambling and vice with the requisite people smoking outside and intimidating black-suited bouncers guarding the doors. It's actually impressive how seedy and dark they manage to make them, even in the daytime.||||I came with two friends who stayed in one room, and I took a room by myself. The people at the desk are pretty nice and friendly, though I didn't ask for much from them. The rooms were small, the beds were old and hard, the appliances were old and hard to use. The bathrooms were perfectly adequate. In my room, paint and fixtures were coming off the wall, everything was literally slightly off-kilter, and there was a strong smell of smoke pervading the non-smoking room/floor. It's possible that other guests or the establishments next door are to blame, but it was unpleasant either way. Nothing was dirty, per se, but I wasn't convinced anything was CLEAN either. Internet in the lobby (didn't try), but none in the room. Didn't eat at the restaurant, cannot comment.||||This was a little cheaper than other places on the relatively high-demand day we came, and it was a suggestion on Agoda. But, we definitely wouldn't have stayed here if I hadn't accidentally booked the room when I had just wanted to reserve it - and if the hotel didn't have a draconian 3 day advance warning cancellation policy.||||Not....

We arrived Taichung quite late and had a hard time locating the place as it was hidden in the lanes. But the staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay in TaiChung.
