Worst Hotel Experience of My Life - A Complete Nightmare
I cannot stress enough how much I regret booking this hotel. From start to finish, this was the most stressful, disappointing, and infuriating hotel stay I’ve ever had.
What Lured Me In
I booked this hotel because it was advertised as a “new” property. I thought I’d get a modern, clean, and comfortable experience. How wrong I was. It’s clear now that “new” meant absolutely nothing because every aspect of this hotel feels poorly managed and downright deceptive.
What Went Wrong: A Comprehensive Breakdown
The Room • Noise Levels: The rooms are completely lacking any soundproofing. You can hear every single noise—people talking, kids crying, doors slamming, and footsteps echoing throughout the building. It felt like sleeping in a busy market rather than a hotel. Forget any chance of rest or relaxation. • No Hot Water: There was absolutely NO hot water for the entire duration of my stay. I reported it to the front desk multiple times, and their response was dismissive and unapologetic. No effort was made to fix the issue. I ended up having to take cold showers every day.
Hidden Charges – A Complete Scam
This was the most outrageous and infuriating part of my stay. The hotel deliberately hides charges that they spring on you at checkout. For instance: • I was told at checkout that I had to pay 2,500 THB (about $100 CAD) for a “dirty towel.” They claimed the towel had “dirt” on it and needed to be replaced. This was never disclosed anywhere—not at check-in, not in the room, and not during housekeeping. • When I protested, they refused to let me check out until I paid. After arguing, they “generously” reduced the fee to 2,000 THB, but it still felt like extortion. I was essentially held hostage at the front desk until I paid this ridiculous fee.
For context, I had already paid $1,800 CAD for 3 rooms over 4 days, which is incredibly expensive for the area. To add insult to injury, they squeezed extra money out of me with no justification.
The Staff • The front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. They seemed annoyed every time I approached them with an issue, and they did nothing to resolve my complaints. • The housekeeping staff were fine, but it doesn’t matter because the management’s policies are so shady and dishonest. • The only redeeming part of the staff was the breakfast team, who were polite, and the food was decent (though certainly not exceptional).
The Amenities • Pool Hours: One of the reasons I booked this hotel was the pool. However, the pool closes ridiculously early at 7 PM, which makes no sense for travelers who might be out sightseeing during the day. It’s almost like they don’t want guests to use it. • Noisy Environment: Again, I can’t stress enough how loud this place was. It’s impossible to relax anywhere in the building.
The Location
The hotel is in a terrible location. The area surrounding the property is filled with garbage and debris, making it feel unsafe and unpleasant. • I saw evidence of drug use in the area, which made me uncomfortable walking outside the hotel. • There are no good restaurants or attractions nearby, so you’ll need to take transportation for anything worth doing.
Why This Was So Upsetting
I travel frequently, and I’ve stayed at all kinds of hotels—from budget accommodations to luxury resorts. I can confidently say this was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. It wasn’t just bad—it felt like a complete scam. The management doesn’t care about the guests, the facilities are subpar, and the hidden fees are predatory and unethical.
Final Verdict
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. It’s noisy, dirty, poorly managed, and located in an unsafe area. The hidden charges make it a complete rip-off, and the staff’s attitude only adds to the misery.
If you’re looking for a stress-free vacation, STAY FAR AWAY from this place. I can’t believe I wasted my time and money
Beware- It looks nice on the outside but it’s Garbage...

Hyatt BRG Program ||Hyatt Consumer Affairs confirmed, in writing, that "...The Standard brand is a participating property in our Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) program."||Based upon their confirmation, I made a non refundable reservation and the following morning received a reply from their BRG staff that my claim was denied because it wasn't! ||I forwarded Hyatts confirmation to the contrary and almost as expected Hyatt CA stuck their heads on the sand. Frankly, as someone who in my earlier career had built Hyatts i considered this bait and switch, and criminal fraud and so notified Hyatt Legal, who like their BRG team did not even have the professional courtesy (I had cross trained from being an engineer to that of a lawyer 30 years ago) but not to worry as here in Thailand a damaged party can file a case in Criminal Court directly (pro-se) without the need of filing with the police or having a Public Prosecutor file.||||2. Read moreStandard X Bangkok feels more like an art gallery than a typical hotel. I would highly recommend this unique experience to anyone seeking something different. Standard X currently has only two locations—Bangkok and Melbourne—and Bangkok must be the best place for most people to experience this brand.||Location: Next to the Phra Arthit ferry station, from where you can take a ferry to Iconsiam, Asiatique, Wat Arun, and more. Khaosan Road is a short walk from the hotel as well.||Facilities: The rooftop pool offers stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. The hotel lobby is the true highlight, immersing guests in an art gallery atmosphere with paintings and artworks displayed throughout.||Room: The Deluxe King Riverview room is on the smaller side but richly decorated with artistic touches. I loved the river view from the balcony, though the room’s compact size made it less comfortable to linger in. The TV could use an upgrade, as the current small model felt a bit outdated.||Breakfast: Served at Bang, a restaurant adorned with creative art pieces and river views. The breakfast includes both à la carte and buffet options. While the dishes I tried were good, none were particularly memorable; the ambiance and setting were the real highlights.||Globalist Recognition: Includes a 4 pm late checkout, two mocktail vouchers for the rooftop pool, and a nice breakfast at Bang.||Service: Everything ran smoothly, and the receptionists were very helpful, recommending many cool places to...
