For me it wasn’t bad like the bad reviews but the lady owner has attitude at least 50% of the time. Don’t come here and expect warmth or friendly/welcoming staff. Any request was met with a negative look but they did a good job of cleaning when you ask. I stayed on the second floor. The balcony was not at all like the picture showed and I paid an extra $20 to upgrade. They did allow me to change from the twin room to the queen free of charge so I didn’t fight them on the false advertising. If you book the cheapest room it may be the worst experience but as I paid a little more I guess my experience wasn’t as bad. Book the ones that have a balcony for a bit more but understand that it is not like in the pics and I booked it only because it was on a special so it was cheaper than alternatives at that time. The bed was uncomfortable with springs and hard but luckily no mold or bed bugs or construction. Water is cold unless you only turn it on partially and then it’s hot but for the first two days I didn’t realize that’s how it works. There was a man smoking inside the lobby every morning but no staff did. All others smoked outside where they should and no one smoked next to my balcony thankfully. It’s a quiet and convenient location. I would stay longer at the cheaper price but I’ve moved to one which is half the price of what they have it listed as now and is similar. Summary: don’t expect hospitality and only book the rooms that have a balcony and if it’s on a discount/special. Otherwise you can find better options. I just booked last minute so most places were sold out but I was not unhappy with my stay. You can hang laundry on the roof. If you ask they won’t help but I found it myself by going to the roof. It won’t dry in the balcony in the shade and it’s too small to hang much but it dries fast in the sun...
Read moreWe enjoyed our 7 day stay in Mali's Room Hotel (Western House Hotel). The staff were very friendly and helpful and answered any questions we had and were always smiley when we passed through reception. There was no safe in the room but we were able to store valuables at reception. However we felt the room and hotel was fairly secure. ||The room had a fridge wardrobe free water balcony and we got new sheets towels and toiletries etc every day. ||The location was perfect as it's located in the old town in Chiang Mai. We were in walking distance of the main attractions bars shops and restaurants etc while the area around the hotel was quiet so we could get some sleep. ||I think the room we stayed in could do with a bit of painting and decorating in some places and the lobby could have more on offer i.e water, drinks food and snacks etc but for the price we paid this hotel ticked all the right boxes for what we needed and was definitely good value for money (while it isn't a five star hotel).||The hotel should update google maps to the new name of the hotel as taxis tuk tuks etc only knew it as western house hotel. ||Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend to anyone staying in chiang mai who is looking for a reasonably priced hotel. We would like to thank the staff for making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. We would definitely...
Read moreLong story short I cannot recommend this place. I didn't see all this efficiency or willing to do from the owner. For same price / 100b more you can find far better places.
Pro: it was quite clean (not too much). Bed size is king. The rooms have a balcony and there is a small parking lot just in front of the hotel.
Cons: After the check-in 0 information given: if I can have an istant coffee in the lobby (quite disgusting status BTW), if there is breakfast, nothing. Soap is in the lobby, you need to take it yourself. I wouldn't mind the outdated forniture, but it's not a high cost to give some paint where is needed. The room is quite dark during the day and light passes after the dawn. On alternate days the monks play the gong at 4 in the morning. One night some people in the lobby was so noisy until half past 4 in the morning, nobody did anything. AC is really noisy and with all those draughts you need to keep it always on. There is a small window but it's not possible to open it for the night as the mechanism is broken. There are a few sockets in the room and the rooms themselves are not very large. The wet area of the shower is not closed/bounded by any step / barrier. Even if there are 2 couples in the hotel the wifi connection may be...
